Hello, I'm new. I don't play Quake or anything like that just want your opinions on something please..

So it's my (debatably) better half's birthday coming up next month and he plays Quake a lot, thinking of getting him a console but which one is best?? PS3? 360? (fuck Wii, looks like some toss piece of iPod afterbirth).

So yeah, help much appreciated anyway..

Thanks,

Emz

This is easy. PS3 is impossible to buy outside of ebay and its quite expensive there.

Qhlan? Hmm, he's not mentioned it and not sure if it's his cup of tea really, would prefer to get him something lasting that he can use for a while....plus Sweden is a bit of a trek for a 3-day g33k convention.

PS3 then I guess. Thanks.

Might sit on that one til next year when the price and demand has dropped off a bit though..

a grown up can play any game, since they are secure in their adulthood. a teenager like yourself can only play games made for pubescent teenagers, in fear of being confused with a child. much like a person who is insecure in his/her sexuality is often homophobic, "Don't touch me! I'm afraid I might turn gay!".

wii will probably have less splatter games than ps3, but that doesn't make it a kids' console.

every Nintendo console has been designed for kids and I'm afraid that won't change anytime soon, you keep on living in your imaginative worlds, which function much like what you said about me

i guess that's why the commercial almost exclusively has adults playing, and nintendo say they target all ages, even 70 year olds? that wii is in fact meant to be played by people who aren't familiar to video games, which all kids ARE.

thanks coqsane for making me open my eyes to the truth, wii is a kids' console.

nintendo has always focused on making entertainment systems for the whole family
that's why there wasn't any blood in some snes games etc.
it's nothing new just because of wii..

In terms of PS3 vs Xbox 360, the MS console has this one won hands-down for the moment. The PS3 is much more expensive and the 2 consoles have pretty much the same level of horsepower under the bonnet (no matter what Sony say - check the comparative screenshots for games like Ridge Racer for example). On top of that, the 360 has been out for over a year now and has a solid stable of games behind it, whereas the PS3 will not have the big "AAA" titles for some time, and even then most of these will also come out on the cheaper Xbox 360. Add in Xbox Live, which is brilliantly streamlined into the console and into all the games, versus PS3's lack of any centralised online system, and it's pretty obvious which is the stronger candidate right now.

Maybe once the prices come down and some good games come out for the PS3 it will be a good investment. But for now it's for Sony die-hards only

wii has the nintendo games and the wiimote

ps3 has final fantasy (or will have, at least)

xbox 360 has a lot of mediocre games but nothing spectacular

xbox 360 might be the leader right now but i don't think it will win "the war"

The 360 has plenty of spectacular games: GR:AW, Oblivion, Burnout Revenge, Pro evo 6, Rainbow 6: Vegas, FEAR, Gears of War, Viva Pinata... shall I continue?

For me the Wii has to really prove that it's not just a gimmick. Besides Zelda and the WiiPlay/WiiSports games, most of the games so far have been poor and developers haven't really worked out a way of sensibly implimenting the control system. If they can do this and produce good games for the system then it will be a long-term success.

xbox 360 is sweet but don't think that its the games that are sweet its everything that surrounds it, like connection with media center etc...

wii on the other hand, think the whole concept with its controls will take Zelda to another level, and just that will make it better than Xbox360, but it depends on Zelda

btw in "the Island" the movie, they have a XboX, DAMN I WANT THAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The two last ones are among the worst games for 360
other than that you are correct

that is so true, the wii-mote(?!) is also the worst control for any console yet because of the square part you're holding is just not comfortable

I haven't played VP myself but it's been very well received and had good reviews from both the press and public. Gears of War is probably my favourite game on the system and is simply awesome fun online and off.

Sony have confirmed the cost of the PS3 in the UK today - it'll be cheaper to buy a Wii with an extra controller AND an Xbox 360 premium with a game and extra controller than it will be to buy a single PS3 with ONE game.
