Today I'm seeing (for the 3rd day in a row) that challenge-tv.com is down!

Anybody knows what happend?

If this database is lost, then a great history of QW is lost forever... =D
Maybe we could make a huge backup of all demos and store somewhere else, just in case something happen...

I have predicted this, and gave a sugestion, here, and got some good answers, like that the real trouble in doing something like this would not be the money, but the time/work spent.

just an idea, if someone also think it's a interesting thing to do, maybe I'll do it (if nobody has backed-it-up yet...)...

anyone?

Can't we use dropbox, at least as a backup situation for tournament demos? You can either:
- share a folder, but does require to send email invites (but this can give the account holder a bonus for more space (up to 16GB for FREE) and there's not that many qw members anyway) and the users can then browse online through the demos
- share url's to specific files in the Public folder (this is what tournament players could use for their demos and post the url's on the tournament's website).

No more downtime trouble and all for free.

This makes me sad, I just started playing again after a break of 10-11 years.

This means that I have no idea what's happened during these years and secondly I can't find any old demos with my old clan The Pooh Clan.

...and This: http://www.quakeworld.nu/forum/topic/5942

We are discussing the "Future of QW".

I think we CANNOT have a future forgetting the GOLDEN PAST....

I'm really sad seeing CHALLENGE-TV.COM dead....

yeah they are broken... but the content is there!

just Copy ( mouse right-button -> "Copy Link Location" ) the links you wanna enter, for exemple:

http://challenge-tv.com/demos/game/2/quakeworld (not working)

and add a "www." before, like this:

http://www.challenge-tv.com/demos/game/2/quakeworld (WORKING!)

Yes, it's up but only the site itself. Demos are unavailable it seems since there is a notice
Quote:
* This demo is unavailable. We lost our big ftp and need a new one! *
on every demo page.

Make your system use 194.218.215.218 for both challenge-tv.com and www.challenge-tv.com (for example through your hosts file, don't forget to reset it later though...). Then the site works fine (apart from being a pain in the ass due to /"%&§&"%$ Javascript).

416M challenge-tv.com/demostorage/Counterstrike
215M challenge-tv.com/demostorage/Enemy Territory
22G challenge-tv.com/demostorage/Miscellaneous
16G challenge-tv.com/demostorage/Promode
578M challenge-tv.com/demostorage/Quake 1
354M challenge-tv.com/demostorage/Quake 2
5.6G challenge-tv.com/demostorage/Quake 3

503M challenge-tv.com/demostorage/RTCW
67M challenge-tv.com/demostorage/Starcraft Broodwar
29M challenge-tv.com/demostorage/Warcraft 3
62G total

919M total

It took a while but today I finally uploaded the bunch to archive.org.

https://archive.org/search.php?query=subject%3A%22challenge-tv%22

I split the bigger directories according to the original structure, you can find webpages and stuff in https://archive.org/details/Challenge-TV_demos

You can directly download files out of those tar files by adding a / at the download URLs.

Keep your gaming history alive, archive everything.
