After some discussion with BogoJoker today we have floated the idea of running a Tri-Continent 2on2 tournament now that the new Miami servers have bridged the gap between North America, Europe and Brazil. Players from Chile who are willing to play in Miami are also eligible. We are also entertaining the idea of a CA$H prize. The MAP pool will be the TB5. This is the only way we can make all regions happy. NA players typically play dm2, ztndm3 and aerowalk. Europeans also play dm4. Brazilians play dm6. Everyone knows these maps so they will all be included. The format will be round robin as it is often hard to schedule games even in your own timezone so this way you don't need to wait for other teams to play, you can just play as many games as soon as you want. We would expect to get around 16 teams registered. 2-3 from USA, 2-3 from Brasil and the rest from Europe. The key factor in this tournament will be the rules in which the servers are chosen so people will need to be aware of this as Europeans will not have the Luxury of playing in London. You must expect to play games in Miami or New York at some point and pinging up might be required (tentatively I am thinking to ping up to a maximum of 90ms). But here is how it will work with server selection: Simple Selections-
vs = European Server -
vs = North American Server -
vs = Brazilian Server Less Simple Selections -
vs = Miami Server. No negotiation. -
vs = Miami Server. No negotiation + Americans ping up. Least Simple Selections -
vs = NYC or London (whichever has the lowest average ping of all 4 players) and other team pings up. So basically if you don't want to play on a high ping, then don't play. If you are happy to play with up to 140ms then enter. To give you an example of the pings we are seeing: -
Brazil: 130-140ms to Miami -
Netherlands: 25ms London, 95ms to NYC , 120ms to Miami, Please post in the comments your location and your ping (in-game) to NYC, Miami and London + your willingness to play**Before checking your pings, use this guide to make sure have the best route possible to the server. When playing over long distances this can change your ping by up to 50ms.** Confirmed Teams European Teams-
dirtbox + mushi! -
bps + carapace
North American Teams -
BogoJoker + Blood_Dawg -
sane + squeeze -
fenris + quakephil
South American Teams -
Kernell + TBA -
mihawk + guto -
x1bot + alien

dm4 tourney starts in 1 week. 2on2 tourney starts beginning of september. Also, I will be starting an Aerowalk tourney shortly after the dm4 tourney (running side-by-side) and I expect to easily hit the 32-player limit so preference will be given to those who play in the dm4 tourney also

BogoJoker: Miami - 92ms (miami.usa.besmella.com:28502) New York - 93ms-110ms (qw.quakephil.com:28002) UK - 156ms (quakeworld.co.uk:27502) Denmark - 180ms-186ms (qw.foppa.dk:27502) Brazil - 208ms (191.96.5.222:27501) While we have players responding, who would be interesting in playing a CTF match? We would only need about 10 people world wide to have a really fun series of games.

I'm actually a little disappointed with the response to this tourney idea. I am noticing virtually no responses from Scandinavians... Sadly this will probably kill this tourney... but I am happy to run it even if we have only 6 teams..... 2x , 2x and 2x (Edited 2014-07-21, 21:47)

I have 2 players that are willing to play, both from USA, 1) I need an answer from FORSURE, and 2) is waiting to see what teams sign up, so regardless you have another USA team no matter what. sane
