How does the future for Challenge-TV look like? This question and more will be answered in this last part of
Zappater's three part interview series with
DonKing.
But before you go on to read the interview why not help out Challenge-TV by
uploading a demo or
donate a few dollars for you own DVD set of demos? Also make sure to read
Part 1 and
Part 2 of this interview with DonKing.
Lets talk vision, dreams and wishes. Whats your vision for CHTV right now and where do you see it in 5-10 years? My vision is for CHTV to continue hosting Quakeworld and CPMa demos but also many other game demos, even consoles. To convert a lot of the classic demos into videos so that these great games and players are never forgotten. To have a site that navigates well, where everything you want is right there at the push of a button and to get all of my ideas coded into the site.
You have talked about community support and how badly its needed, what do you want from the community to keep CHTV alive? The first thing I want is a coder and a designer. Then i want the communities to start uploading demos.
DonKing can be contacted either through IRC in #GGL on Quakenet or by using email drk DOT DonKing AT gmail DOT com.Live streaming and video on demand is a big thing today, do you ever see CHTV take a step in that direction and how would that go about?I would love to see that happen. Stream some great demos, even have someone commentating while watching the demos. I would also like to run some tournaments through CHTV and have the matches streamed. If anyone has any expertise in streaming demos, let me know. I have no clue how to do this.
You made a post before about community supported tournaments, how has the response to that been you think and will we ever see it realized? The response was good and I think one day that this will be possible. It would be as simple as getting the idea down on paper and then asking for donations. ie. If you would like to see LakermaN play Reload on dm2 then we would need to make a collection to get these guys in a match, or we could just run a TDM tournament where the top 3 teams get prizes.
There are a millions way to do it.
Except for QW and CPM not many games use CHTV extensively, but you want to change this. How will you go about making this change?I need to make uploading the demos/replays easier and I need a lot of them, I need to create a lot more demo packs then get people to come to the site. CHTV has the CPMa and QW demos but what we don't have are CS, Starcraft 2, Quakelive etc... demos and I want CHTV to have something for everyone.
Lets get back to that coder, what is he currently working on and how will this affect Challenge-TV?All he is currently doing is fixing the CHTV folders on the ftp, he has also created a new backend. The ftp has become a mess after 10 years, there is code from 2000 still there and it needs to be cleaned up. Although I appreciate his help, he has a life and the process is very slow.
In case CHTV ever dies are there any plans for what will happen to the corpse? If CHTV dies I guess everyone would just need to download all of the demos ASAP!!
Thanks a lot for your two hours of time. Been amazing talking to you and we wish you and CHTV the best of luck.Make sure you read Part 1 and Part 2 of the interview as well!
