Next we introduce
Team Carapace, seeded #4.
Carapace was also featured last season where his team Carapace's Nutcases reached the quarter finals.
Much like last season where
Razor was his first pick he has opted for the same strategy again, this time picking teammate
Grisling as his first choice. Along with
Carapace and
Grisling, both from swedish top clan
Suddendeath comes
Meshuggah, formerly of russian clan
USSR. Also found on
Carapace team is danish oldschooler
Niw from
C88. Surprisingly enough,
Carapace opted for returning star
Phantasy as his 5th pick.
Carapace's Primary Carapace is one such player that has risen to great heights in QuakeWorld lately. Having made his comeback as late as 2011 participating in EQL Season 13 immediately joining the ranks of polish Division 2 clan
Magnum 44. It didn't take long however before he was snatched up by
Suddendeath where he has now progressed into an absolute monster of a player. Recognized by many as the absolute star in
Suddendeath along with his companion
Bps.
Carapace is also a strong allround player whos been competing in the absolute top in 1on1, 2on2 as well as 4on4. His team features some interesting characters and unlike last season where he opted for an all Swedish team, he is now joined by several other European top players of different nationalities. It will be interesting to see how this team fare in the tournament, especially as his team is placed in Group A together with three other strong teams. I guess we can now call this group the group of death as all four teams are very equal on paper.
GrislingCarapace's first choice for his team is a known figure in the scene.
Grisling has represented teams such as
Fragomatic,
Slackers and currently
Suddendeath. He is possibly the most merited 4on4 player on the team, having played a part in winning NQR Season 8, Smackdown Season 6 as well as EQL Season 1 with
Fragomatic. Questions will be raised regarding his current acitivity, though being full of experience as well as skill I can definitely see him as a standout player on this team that will put up strong performances on all three maps.
Carapace will need him to perform at his absolute best if they wish to qualify from this strong group consisting of
Dimman,
Rikoll and
Paradoks.
Meshuggah is an experienced player who was last seen playing with russian clan
USSR, though he has just returned from a short break missing out on the action of EQL Season 14, season 15 as well as the first season of Salvation. He seems to be back with a bang however putting up strong performances in the mix games I've seen him take part in. He is a player who is strong on all three maps, and his biggest contribution to the team will be his leadership experience from leading former top clans such as
USSR. It's always good to have another strong voice on MM3 that raises the fighting spirit and takes some load off of the captain. Though despite his leadership qualities he is also a very strong 4on4 player who can perform at the highest level. Hopefully
Meshuggah will continue to stay active in the scene and take part in upcoming tournaments as well!
NiwPossibly one of the players (together with countryman
ParadokS) who has played Quake for the longest. Niw currently plays in clan
C88 in Division 1, though he hasn't been very active for his team. Hopefully he will step up for this season and help guide
Carapace's team into the playoffs.
Niw is a player who contribute with loads of experience, having played in several old top clans he is fully aware of what it takes to be able to perform at the highest level 24/7. He is another player who is fairly evenly matched on all three maps of QuakeWorld. Where as other teams have a few players who clearly favor specific maps it seems as if
Carapace has picked a team of players that are equally matched on all three, something that will definitely mean teams will get a hard time vs this team on any map they chose.
Phantasy is another oldschool player whose returned to QuakeWorld. A part from participating in Salvation Season 2 he has also taken part in Thunderdome Season 2 where he was seeded in the "Div0" division. Despite his years off from QuakeWorld he managed to put up some really good performances taking a map from russian star player
Bulat as well as beating swedish star
Griffin in a tight series of games. While
Phantasy might not be renowned for his 4on4 skills, but more so for his strong tactical & defensive play in duels where he played in the final of Duelmania #4 against dutch star
Reppie, beating several top players along the way. Perhaps his greatest feat is beating infamous swedish legend
LakermaN in duel tournament on swedish lan OB99. Quite a feat considering
LakermaN went on to win the True Gamers International duel tournament that very same year. For those who didn't know, TGI was the biggest and most hyped event QuakeWorld has ever had. It featured 10 of the worlds best players all playing at LAN in Sweden. TGI featured legends such as
Kane,
Reload,
Sectopod,
LakermaN,
Sujoy and
Timber to name a few. While
Phantasy's duel merits are impressive as hell he hasn't really participated in too many 4on4 tournaments in the past. He was however a part of mix clan
Leftovers that won the NQR Summer Custom Cup as well as finishing 2nd place with the same team in the NQR Summer Classic Cup (TB3 only) in 2004. I do think we will see him getting some playtime for
Carapace's team however as this is one such player that every quake lover wants to see back in action.
