John Romero announced a new FPS "Severity" which is hoping to be a "de facto standard in deathmatch competition" for the CPL.

Also Angel Munoz head of the CPL talked about this earlier the other day. A summary from ESReality here:

In fact, CPL might be hiring pro-gamers to advise directly in conjunction with the games development. As described in the press release, there will be two parts to the game. The 1v1 game type and the 5v5. The reason I would describe them as parts is because they will have almost completely different physics and game play attributes. Although it wasn't directly implied, I can gather that the 1v1 mode will be based mostly on the Quake franchise, while 5v5 on Counter-Strike. The engine will be based on the Quake3 server-client model, using Quake3 'netcode', and some sort of , 'id Software' rendering technology. They haven't announced which, but possibly completely new. We also know that CPL has already licensed the Quake 3 engine.

While it might be a good game once it's finished i don't think it will be appealing to the QW community. The idea of having a standardized game for tournaments isn't that bad though. It's just too bad that it probably will turn out shit.

the thing is.. if the game physics is as fast and almost same movements i'll go straight from qw to that i think, just for competition .. then we(qw'ers) might have a chance to take over the cpl for a year

then where were you when they had PK at CPL?

coolest feature about PK is that you could RJ through teleporters maintaining speed and even direction (upwards..)
