ive just changed my isp and cant get a decent ping unless i go through this qizmo " UKUSA Qizmo Oxford" "217.199.191.149:29000" , i need a script to connect me to that qizmo then to "quake.xs4all.nl:27500" " 194.109.69.75 " . i tried this but it dont work please help a noob ..lol

I don't understand this qizmo stuff... it never works for me. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong.

In my case, I live in The Netherlands and would like to play on Elvis FFA, wich is a Polish server I think.

Do I understand correctly that I first need to connect to a qizmo in or near my country, or do I need a qizmo that's in the country of the server I want to play on???

What depends is both what ping you have to the Qizmo, and what ping the Qizmo has to the FFA server. There is no definite way to know what Qizmo will be the best one unless you try the ones that you ping lowest to (which should be Qizmos in your own country) and then hope that this Qizmo ping low to the FFA server too.

Well, so far I haven't been able to improve my ping with it. It was about the same at best or worse. Worse in the sence that it seemed to add the qizmo ping to my usual ping on the Elvis FFA server.

Fortunately, xs4all is back, so I actually can play qw with good ping (around 30 ms), but it would be nice to be able to play elsewhere too.



Another question... about Murdoc's post in this topic... he wrote this to the other user:

I noticed that in the second ip address, the port is missing. Is this on purpose or because you can omit the port when the port of the qizmo server and the server you want to play on are the same?

ill try to explain better what ake vader said.
Default port on qw is 27500. So if u "connect 194.109.69.75" you will connect to port 27500 of that server.

About qizmo routing: it works like this (ill give an example):
your pc -> qizmo 1 - 22ms
qizmo 1 -> xs4all (for instance) -> 5 ms

total ping you will get: 22+5ms= ~27ms

The thing is: you got to search a GOOD qizmo for you (in which u get good ping). and that qizmo you choose must have good ping to the server you want.

1) your ping to the qizmo server
2) qizmo's server to destination server ping
your ping is like this: 1 + 2


you CAN get better pings - u just got to choose the right qizmo. from my experience, you should get a handfull of GOOD qizmos for you (low ping qizmos). and then ping servers from those qizmos to see which one to choose (considering 1 and 2).

I just tried about 10 gizmos from ASE and then connected to Elvis FFA before I read your post. I tried pretty much all the listed qizmos under 90 ping, because that's the ping I get at Elvis without a qizmo. None resulted in ping under 90 for Elvis, only 90 or above.

btw Elvis isn't Polish, Poland > Russia, gnu.univ.gda.pl is Polish, but it seems to be down right now

BTW: Do I need to add another server scanner in ASE perhaps?? I've never changed anything there and ASE always whines about "couldn't establish connection to scanner. Would you like to switch to an alternate scanner?".

The weird thing is that it DOES scan servers...
