VWEP stands for (cmiiw) view weapon. Currently, the player model only shows the axe as a specific weapon. No matter what other weapon he's holding, the model is a generic gun. Tonik and Oldman I believe have long ago added VWEP support to zquake and ezquake, and I believe there are player models floating out there with vwep support. With sg and axe scripts all the craze, and a built-in axe script in the new ezquake, I wanted to see what people thought about seeing actual models on the player.
If you vote no, please give us a detailed explanation WHY you voted no, and not some stupid thing like "i dont like it" or "changes gameplay". Why don't you like it, and why and how does it change gameplay?
I personally think it's a great move forward, and is a nice cosmetic change.
Btw, if vwep is supported, probably we can have it so users choose to use old player models or new.
To clarify, the weapon model will only show when you have that weapon active!

because its important to show that you don't got a weapon for the enemy!
an example:
dm3 Quad is coming team FF @ ya/window dag has rl akke no rl pietro no rl
team E @ Quad para rl goljat gl hixen sg
now when ff attacks they wanna do a maneuver, E knows they have 1 rl and they wanna kill him first, when they all jump in they don't wanna shoot the sg guys, only the one with weapon to kill him first.. with VWEP they will see, ahh its dag, lets take him
another situation: dm3 enemy got a good lock you sneaked lg into sng area your around the whole thingy almost and a rl guy spots you from under-lift you shoot a few sg and he just storms for the easy frag. now you counter-attack with lg and wipe shit in his face and get his pack!
To have new models would be nice and to be able to choose is even better!
I think this will attract new ppl to QW and we old ones can sit relax with our old beloved model

that's stupid sassa vwep will only show the active weapon, and since everyone is using weapon scripts nowadays, you won't get any additional information. you aren't telling me as a div1 player, you can't tell if a player has RL or not when he actually fires his weapon, are you?

personally i think we should add the support. This is because like stated above, the vwep will display the active weapon so no-one will gain advantages over players using weapon scripts. But also It will add that modern touch to the game and will look awesome for movies.
I can only see pro's for this any find no cons, unless it will bring down frame rates.

There are plenty of players who play without weapon scripts. Sassas explanation fits perfectly to those players.

is mod support needed to add vwep? if it is, you can add a vote system for it (in KTX for example) and allow it or not. depending of what the majority of the players want.

maybe quakeworld should be forked?
so the purists can play in their sandbox and have no updates to the client/server, and the actual players can get what they want.

This is crazy. I know of many div1 players who play without weapon scripts. This will change the game a LOT especially on dm3. I do not like weapon scripts, but I'm also not stupid enough to run through the map with the rocket launcher in my hands. error, it takes like 10 seconds to change that in their cfg so the weapon hides..

the div1 people who aren't using weapon scripts are probably not using it because of principles, that they want to be "cheat free" and feel they can still play as good as people with weapon scripts. but as for fullbright skins they just can't keep up and have to use it.

you fire faster if the weapon is already selected. its good to have weapon selected if you die in duels.

Say you are on the bottom level of aerowalk and died from spam from the top level. You know your pack with an RL and a few shots is there, so you essentially just put a weapon on the map. Sure, that other player could pickup the RL pack as well, but most likely in duels, you only die when the other player already has a weapon. KovaaK explained this with his weapon script in advanced configuration and I agree wholeheartedly.
