UPDATE:

New beta version 3 of meatless released (not many saw version 2).

Changes from version 1 to 3:

-RA room now outdoors
-Added some train cars to YA room with ladders leading up to the 25hp platform
-Added some health to YA room by teleport
-Added ramp jump from central room to the upper catwalk
-Changed RA to YA and YA to GA. Original GA removed.
-Adjusted teleport exit at RL and remade the catwalk there.
-Lowered ceiling in RL room
-Made lift a little bigger and added a cute pole to it
-Added a wall in central room to help player stuck in MH room with no hope

Is anyone familiar with the 1v1 map Meatless for Painkiller? I've been reading about the demand for new duel maps in qw. I designed Meatless for PK with a friend of mine, and I'm thinking about making a QW version if I can magically come up with the time to do it. I think, with some modification, the map could play well in QW.

If I take it on, I'd need some experienced players to help me with tailoring the map to QW's gameplay since I have almost no QW experience.

Do you think there's potential for meatless in qw?

I've seen some close games between Voo and Fatality. Close and exciting games but without CS and similar BS. Great map, will it work in qw?

cant say about meatless, i dont know the map very well. about dm_sacred tho, i have it allready for qw. allmost done. lights are pretty much all that need more work. not 100% accurate. i made few changes. maybe more about that some day.

This is much earlier than I'd normally post a map, but I feel like it (maybe because I'm sick?).

-No texturing done
-No real lighting done
-Item placement isn't very well-thought out. It's pretty similar to the original.
-You can move through the map extremely quickly. It's maybe medium-sized square-footage wise for a duel map, but very much fast to move through. No idea if this will work.


Tell me if you know anyone who has a server that might be willing to give me FTP access so I can test the map. Let me know if you bother playing a test duel

I'll be away for the weekend tomorrow afternoon.

My thought is that if the upper platform in the central room that leads to the upper entrance of the RA room were shortened more, and that it was prevented by an obstacle to jump directly from the upper platform in central to the MH, the speed of getting from RA to MH would be slow enough that an opponent waiting in MH/YA room would have to know the guy is coming. Then it would take 2RJs to get from RA to MH the fastest way possible, and getting from MH to RA would be slower but only require one RJ (from the bottom of the central room).

Using the upper RJ path is still probably the most aggressive way to move from RA to the central part of the map, and probably the fastest way still to get to RA from the central room (as it was in PK - although there were ramps leading up to that path in PK in the central room).

Anyone else have thoughts?


And I'll ask again, is anyone aware of a server that I might be able to use to test?

Painkiller could have been a great game if they didnt rush it. The fast paced action was my favorite part about it. Damn polakS!

i miss the jump pads that PK has.. and i want longer corridores. smaller spaces.. and as Tectonic mentioned.. i want the ramp as in the original.. it took a while before i realized what's what in this version. made me a little disappointed

good job tho. i'm sure you'll be able to make this map great with a few ajustments. :]

Posting a new version tomorrow. Did some playtesting tonight and will make some quick changes and release a new one tomorrow afternoon probably for you euros.

The layout is nice, plays well in the DMSP mod ; the scale is a tiny bit too large (?) IMO, and the map needs more texture variation.

Looking forward to the next version.

I'm working hardcore on a website I'm developing...so I haven't really had a chance to work on the map the last few weeks. Might be a while until I get around to it again.
