As teaminfo wasn't welcomed too much by the community, what about scr_autoid (the nick+health+armor+weapon info above players head) for teammates? I'd like to know what effect in your opinion it will have on the game. Please, before you post, I don't really care for opinions starting with "It is like enabling X". Do not compare this to something else, thank you.
In my opinion the effect would be positive. It would save pressing of the shownick button which in my opinion is one of the most boring and unattractive things in QW teamplay nowadays. I do realize that it is a change to gameplay (can't estimate how important though), because for example in a room with three other teammates it will be easier to quickly see status of them all. However in average situation you usually do know status of one or two of them and you usually need to "shownick" only the 3rd one.

Agreed, but if you add it, make the info string customizable. Some people would just like to know the nickname, some nick:h:a, and some nick:weapon or such. So ye, if u gonna add it, make sure it's not always one huge string and u got to turn around to grasp it

I would love this, always wanted something like this. (Especially for coop, I know this is not really the problem here ).

I have tried to play with this before and can get very confusing when you have a few teammates running passed and some shit splashes up on screen!

Actually for health/armor we'd use already existing bars, for weapon it's HUD icon.

but you can see the text above the head coming round corners before the player model appears...
hence it'll reduce accidental TKs

It would be better to have some kind of auto-skins with names on them? If scr_autoid can be tweaked so it doesnt show up when the player isn't clearly visible that would be ok I guess.

That would definitelly help a bit in mixes where people usually cant/wont use shownick for unknown reasons (or dont know it exists).
Of course some improvements in clanwars would be also possible, sometimes there is just no time to use shownick.
But the question is would that be accepted in official games =).

I notice when watching mvd that scr_autoid status bar is always draw above others things for example grenade. Also if someones have name like one letter like 4 :-),it is then very small and hard to tell how much that person has armor and life left.

I take in account that issues mentioned by oldman and spin have to be resolved before this feature can be added.

Why isn't the scr_autoid 1 available when speccing games? I thought it was supposed to work both ways (demos/spec), not only in demos? Yeah, I know about ghosting but important official games are played without spectators anyway now. Are going to fix it or leave it as it is now?

Nope, spectator mode is not really going to get improved. Use QTV instead. We're working on easier server<->qtv switching, with latest ezQuake you can use /join and /observe commands when you are watching the QTV and the client will try to take you to the server you watch. So that's the QTV->server way, the other way will come soon.

Wont it be in the way and block your view even more when mates are infront of you and you are trying to see whats going on behind them?
Personally i dont think shownick is boring or cumbersome but thats just me. I dont want or need to see their status all the time.

I think you could be able to see teammates earlier if they have some status over the head? QW should be kind of hard and you should do much work to play well We used changing skins with Zoo some years ago... then it got banned cause of some whine it causes fps lag. Never believed that So changing upperbody colour could be one way. For weapons we have high res models that could be used? Like in QTV.. but ofc with that you cant see exact armor/health/ammo number.

So why not make it toggleable like teamoverlay? That would help rookie-clans a lot. Just like the teamoverlay was supposed to have helped.
