Hello! Since the computers on my job (gamingcenter) do not have quakeworld installed and its not possible to do it yourself, I wonder if it is possible to make a CD with a linuxboot which is solely dedicated to quakeworld. It would be awsome if all I had to do was to put the CD in the drive and sit back and watch as first Linux boots, then quakeworld.
Are there any existing projects like this, and if not, does anyone have any suggestions or pointers how I should make this possible? http://www.team-dignitas.org

I think it can turn out to be quite an easy task to prepare one yourself.
1. download a liveCD of your favourite distro (from my experience, sabayon offer a nice one, gentoo based) 2. extract the data from squashFS 3. Copy your Quake dir there 4. Edit the .config of the provided kernel or make a completely new one to your liking, remember about 500hz USB, evdev and whatever drivers you might need 5. Modify the startup scripts to load external stuff, like the 800dpi tool for MX mice (dunno how it's done for others) 6. burn the modified files including the squashfs file on a CD/DVD 7. rpe nubz! :E:E:EE

how about a SLAX Linux - LiveUSB distro.. it's more permisive and runs faster from a USB memory stick rather than from a CD

Slax can run entirely in RAM too ("copy2ram" boot option).

CDs can also be copied into ram with boot option docache (useful when you need to unmount the cd you booted from and mount another one), so this argument is wrong, but ye, pick whatever you prefer, cd or usb stick :E

However, when I try to boot from the USB-stick I get a "boot error" right after the bios-menu. Im pretty sure I did everything right and I tried to reinstall a few times but got the same error each time. I know nothing is wrong with my usb stick as I succesfully installed dsl (damn small linux) on it the other day and it worked fine. However I think I would be prefer your method. You have any idea why it might fault at boot? http://www.team-dignitas.org

Keno: i have no idea.. it might be your hardware not being recognized by SLAX Linux ruskie: yeah, but old version of SLAX (being based on Slackware Linux) had no support for glibc 2.4 that the EZQuake linux binary is using
