a great looking project but each time i open the 2.7GB .exe file , my computer temporarily freezes for 5 minutes, then all of a sudden the process closes and i am unable to get anywhere.
would it be possible to get the textures (not exe) in zip/rar/7zip format , in a torrent please? It Takes A Tough Man To Make A Tender Rocketjump

LordHavoc uploaded me a pk3 but currently the server refuses to serve the file for http. I guess it's the filesize (>2GB on Apache). I am currently trying to rar it (yes, redundant... ) in 1GB pieces. Maybe that works, being an evile excuse, heh.
He is also preparing smaller versions that shouldn't look much different.
If I can't get the file serving to work I could offer to upload from the server to anyone's pc via ftp or ssh though. Just pm me with the details (and be patient). :\ Maybe some sexy 100mbit-swede could torrent it then ( http://denis.stalker.h3q.com:6969/announce ) and mail me the .torrent file to host.

First ones are around 1GB, second one is ~850MB.
Multi-connection downloading and resuming should work. Installing this pk3 is as easy as simply putting it into /id1 or whatever mod you want to run (creating a new dir like /ultra would be a good idea).

First ones are around 1GB, second one is ~850MB. Everyone knows that rar's should be split at floppy disk size, or about 1.4 million bytes, so that someone can copy it to 2071 floppies, easily transportable by truck... Seriously though, I don't believe that Apache has any 2GB limit, and the original exe was over 2GB too, and I downloaded that over http One word of warning for everyone though - texture compression is a necessity to play this pack properly, so you'll want the new DarkPlaces engine beta I am making right now (note: takes up to 15 minutes to build, so if links fail, try again later). Windows build: http://icculus.org/twilight/darkplaces/files/darkplacesenginewindowsonly20070824beta1.zip Linux+Mac+Windows build: http://icculus.org/twilight/darkplaces/files/darkplacesengine20070824beta1.zip Be sure to edit your id1/config.cfg and dpmod/config.cfg and add gl_texturecompression 1 to each before running this pack, otherwise it may crash after a few levels (and run horribly).

Heh, I misread the syntax first and ended up with countless 1 Kilobyte files. Seriously though, I don't believe that Apache has any 2GB limit, and the original exe was over 2GB too, and I downloaded that over http Try it: http://shub-hub.com/files/textures_replacement/rygel-dp-texturepack-ultra.pk3 The file is "chmodded and chowned" fine (same like the other files). Apache had some problems with files >2GB in the past and I guess my gay host uses some old version... :\

As far as I can tell, it is all, a tremendous bit of work by Rygel =)

i'm trying to get these to work with FTEquake, because Fte does support norm/bump/luma/gloss , but having a hard time (eg. fte just being incredibly choppy & not looking great). wondering if its the texture size or something. anyone elsE? It Takes A Tough Man To Make A Tender Rocketjump

Resize the textures by 50% to see if that helps, you probably won't notice any difference.

it would be great is someone could lower the filesize of this texturepack so we can use it for online play I'm new to this forum, I'm scared :x

That said, it takes 2.5 minutes to load each level, which is unfortunate I already made several reduced versions of this texture pack, I simply haven't uploaded them to Spirit's site, maybe I should start an upload...

I am currently uploading a half size texture pack, I have already uploaded a quarter size and 1/8th size - in other words, original quake size - yes just for laughs There's about 1.5 hours to go on this 892MB upload (it's at 75%) as of this writing. Spirit will just need to post these for download, and they are smaller of course (892MB for half size, 231MB for quarter size, and 59MB for quake size). The 892MB one looks good, the 231MB and 59MB ones have rather noticeable skin resolution issues on the models (but I still considered it reasonable to reduce the model resolution on these versions as they were quite memory-hungry).

heh, well if the texutures are in 1024, then 512 is 1/4th the amount of pixels and that requires a lot less memory... i'm making my model textures with 1024 textures, but planning on a seperate 512 texture pack...

gotta try these out
if it's really all the textures and all of them have the same quality (well made) as the textures in the screenshots, then all i can say is holy crap. did you really do all this yourself?

I have most original textures from quake retexturing project. Has only changed the textures and has provided bump, norm, gloss et cetera. Indeed, has lasted long, because I have made it alone, but it has been worthwhile.

There's supposed to be a "high quality" version of this pack, that is more kind to the memory. Any link to that? ---Where can you see lions? Only in kenya! Come to kenya we've got lions.

I can only see dm4 of the dmX-maps in the pack, are the rest just scrambled in the base directory? ---Where can you see lions? Only in kenya! Come to kenya we've got lions.

I can only see dm4 of the dmX-maps in the pack, are the rest just scrambled in the base directory? There are only a few Quake textures that have different versions in certain maps (most famously the yellow rune lights in dm4), all others are identical in all maps.
