I was just wondering how many of you leave your personal computer on all the time 24hrs a day 7 days a week. I have always shut down my PC when it is not in use. Even if that means for only a few hours. For some reason I always believed that computers that are running constantly end up with component failures more often than a PC that is off when not in use.

I turn computer OFF when I go sleep and ON as soon as I wake up again, so with a bit of luck it is OFF 4 hours per day.

I definitely turn it off once i go to bed, but turn it on again as soon as i wake up (if i'm not going to school, then it's morning TV instead). When i go out for a bit i make sure to turn off the monitor at least if i don't shut it down completely. More computers off = win, i think. www.facebook.com/QuakeWorld

My work PC is an old emachines E-Tower 667IR with these upgrades................. 1.0 Celeron Coppermine CPU 384MB RAM GeForce FX5200 PCI video GFX Creative Labs Sound card.
I was running this computer as an Quake III Fortress Xtreme game server for about 3 months and during that time I had to replace the factory PSU with a spare and then had to upgrade to a bigger power supply later. I also had a stick of RAM go bad, but it was covered from Newegg.com under warranty.
My home PC is used to run my website, play games, and other internet activities, but I shut it down every night and never had to replace any components. The specs are..........
Dell Dimension 2350 Intel P4 2.20 CPU 512MB RAM GeForce FX5500 256MB PCI Creative Soundblaster LIVE
I recently replaced my home PC with a new "Custom Build" and plan on using the Dell at work. [url=http://profile.xfire.com/johnnymullet][img]http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/sh/type/2/johnn

If you do not have fluctuations in your power line and you have a good power supply, fails in the hardware has more probability to occur during the processes of shutitng down and mainly booting your computer. https://tinyurl.com/qwbrasil - QuakeFiles
