I host the occasional QW match between myself and a friend. Since I'm hosting locally, my ping is obviously very low. Is there some way that I can artificially increase my latency to match his? (to about 80) I'm hosting via an EzQuake dedicated server.

try connecting through a couple of qizmos, preferably in other countries, and then back to your server..
oh wait that's not artificial.. but it will do the trick.

If you use a mvdsv server, you can use sv_minping "minimum_ping_value_allowed_on_the_server" https://tinyurl.com/qwbrasil - QuakeFiles

Dmitri, best thing is to find a server online were both of you have pretty decent ping. if this isnt good, then try rerouting through qizmo: add this command: cl_useproxy 1 then write : connect ip:port(of the qizmo) then write : connect ip:port(of the server) Quakeserver.net - find servers there close to you Qizmo's to useQizmos u should use are: #1 those close to you or.. #2 located between you and the server or.. #3 located close to the server

You should be able to do this with a local qizmo (most remote qizmos disable this feature). From qizmo docs. Lag settings
Qizmo makes it possible to increase your lag to compete fairly against someone with higher ping. Constant lag: Using only this increases your ping, but still gives you constant ping, no matter how much data the server is sending to you, so this is _not_ enough itself to simulate modem connection. You should only use this to fine tune your ping, after other changes.
Bandwidth: This is important. To simulate 28800 modem connection, you should set this to 28800. This tells Qizmo to increase lag more for big packets, just like when using modem. Packet loss: This will drop given percentage of packets randomly, but isn't necessary to simulate slow connections.

Thanks for the replies, going the sv_minping route. Not going to bother with qizmo (sadly, closest QW server to my location pings at 600).

your isp routes around the world 3 times or something?

No QW servers in South Africa. Majority of bandwidth is shaped.

For better performance I'd still recommend using local Qizmo (that is a Qizmo running on your own PC) and it's lag feature. But sure minping works too.

I doubt a noob will notice the difference between minping and real lag. I have never had any problems with minping..

so it is possible to increase ping using local qizmo ? i can run constant lag only from local qizmo to second local qizmo then when i connect to server get this message " ping increaser not allowed on this server" . there is another way to force constant lag ? beside rate / cl_maxfps

There used to be a South African server when I was there, from a year to half a year ago. I guess it's down then. Custom maps for the show, episodes for the pro.
