Please show us your lightning beam and if you can also include its settings :-)
Here is mine
gl_lightning 1
gl_lightning_size 1 (I don't think 1 is any different than 3 which is default)
gl_particle_trail_detail 10
gl_particle_trail_width 10
It looks MUCH better in the game tho.

EDIT: I didn't really like thin shaft so I'm back to normal shaft again.

Well if you have ezquake you should be able to just type these commands and it should look like those screens :_) Its just a standard particle beam but slightly modified. You can play with gl_lightning command, higher values are possible as well.
gl_lightning 1
gl_lightning_size 1
gl_particle_trail_detail 10
gl_particle_trail_width 10

Sorry to bring this dead post to life again. But I was wondering if anyone could make a zing1.png like the one in the screenshot or if anyone already has it. I noticed however that this one is flawed. The beam isn't continous.
