Anyone know a way to convert a NQ demo (.DEM) into a QW demo?
Urgent.
Thx

No existing tool that I know of. It shouldn't be too hard to write a DEM -> MVD converter though.

ezQuake can already read both... couldn't it convert easily?
It actually allows to easyrecord when watching a .DEM but result file is just a 4kb one, not working of course.

ezQuake's ability to playback .dems is of no help really.

i don't see what use you'd have for .dem -> .qwd/.mvd :-)

Convert demos submitted to http://contest.quakeonline.net/ for the promotion movie... Would be a REAL SHAME not to include those!

but ezquake can playback .dem (thanks to Tonik via ZQuake), just export straight to .tga from the demo and then put that into the promotional movie?

Tonik: NQ physics is different (as you teach everyone ) so might not be doable, especially by someone used to NQ physics
oldman: Point to have a .QWD is to convert to .MVD to have more camera freedom for the movie

That would be one possibility... A converter would be nicer though

QW physics in fact allow for more tricks and just about everything should be doable. The only exception I can think of is rocket jumps which can be (a very very little bit) higher in NQ.

Note that modern NQ engines seem to let you use unlimited physics fps on the local server, whereas in QW anything above 77 is considered a cheat. So next time you see someone do uber l33t bunny runs in an NQ demo, ask him what frame rate he had. If you used serverinfo maxfps 999 in QW, you would do just as well, and possibly better.

Ok, the other exception would be "abuse buggy NQ waterjump code and get out of lava on dm2 near ya-tele by setting fps low".

can you not move 'out of eyes' in .dem playback? surely easier to request this as a simple client fix rather than looking for .dem->.mvd conversion

Does FAQProxy support .dem demo playback like Qizmo supports .qwd?
