there were some discussion on #ktx today about fairpacks, and causticsoda said this:

"is there such a thing as unfair packs in ktx? drop a weapon only if it was being fired when killed?"

to me this seemed like a genious idea. everybody is using weapon scripts anyway, so why not add this to the mod and make weapon scripts unneccessary?

it would sure make coming to quake and making a config a lot easier.

if you answer no, please say why.

No, because it's such a big thing and would ruin the game and the 4on4 games would be like dmm3 with all those packs everywhere.

Same argue like.. (let's lower the maxfps to 30, would make the game slower and easyier coming to quake?)
Or?

actually my preference would be for all servers to have fairpacks 2, drop last fired weapon.

And I cant take credit for this, I believe tonik came up with it

That said i would still like to see this as an option in KTX.

A vote for yes i think does not mean this should become standard, just that it should be an option.

<insert comment from Dakoth about "hidden packs" being impossible to do then>

i don't really understand what you're saying

fact 1) everybody uses weapon scripts except for griffin who don't play anymore
fact 2) with weapon scripts, you only drop a weapon if you are currently firing it
fact 3) with ezquake, you can use weapon scripts and make it look like you aren't

put these together and this suggestion seems not only good, but pretty damn obvious

how can you compare that to lowering the maxfps? or were you making a joke?

This discussion has already been brought up in the jawnmode thread, it lead to me totally reverting both fairpacks and unfairpacks from my twist of jawnmode.

Edit: If you read Ake_Vader's comment and take it seriously (look at what dakoth writes in the jawnmode thread), you'll see why unfairpacks is not so damn obvious.

okay, i can buy the secret pack argument.

eventhough it's probably only done once in 1000 games

And what's wrong with a option anyway.
Disable it by default, let players use it, if they really like it, then you can switch it default, if not, just let it be

It's a better option than fairpacks, but still it hinders a feature that has been in the game forever (never tried it though, I'm not div1). Only dakoth that's using this or can any other div1-players speak up?

It'd also require some additional mod<->client communication, because the player needs to know which weapon he/she really dropped. Sometimes it won't be clear to you if the "firing" phase already passed. When using boomstick script it's pretty clear - you do not hold RL in hands anymore.

I understand that it would make it easier for new player to _configure_ the game, but i think additions like this confuses when it comes to the gameplay mechanics. The confusion still remains, but in a bit different way.
