I can start up the old NQR 2on2 and 4on4 ladders pretty easily if there's enough interest. Please comment and state how you feel.

Ladders suck because they are always inactive. That is the way it always has been.

Has a "true ladder" format been tried in QW? The kind where you have to challenge and beat clans above you to climb.

In NQR ladders the most active are winners, which might discourage less active teams from playing at all. Chosen did very well in the ladders by just playing a lot versus same couple of clans. It was fun, but in terms of a competetion a bit ridiculous.

well i always considerd the ladder games to be a database of pracs. Some people used it for playing shit maps. Doesnt really hurt to have the ladder open.

If you think the system should be changed, what _exactly_ would you rather want? Give me something to work with.

NQR2, thought you could only play a clan once and you have your homemap on which you were supposed to play always. Not sure about deciders.
Custom maps for the show, episodes for the pro.

I think it would be a great idea and I always thought the same as Willgurht. Timing is important though. Might be better maybe to leave it until after NQR 10 and launch it as a fun non competitive ladder in between seasons. Maybe i dunno.

Fun you say ?? Who said anything about this being fun :-)

But yeah I think it is needed

It requires very little admining to run, so even running it now is fine. Although I definitely wouldn't want to ruin any kind of NQR-activity, so waiting until the groupgames are done sounds mighty fine to me

well i cant think of any situations where teams would play a ladder game instead of an nqr-game.

actually, a 1on1-ladder wouldn't suck in my opinion. there'd be enough activity to hold the ladder up (at least for some months) as well as enough players to take part.

yes for 1on1 ladder since no ownage tournament coming up anytime soonish. but make it the way kalma described that most points are rewarded for beating a player on top of you, instead of just plain activity against a few different people

agree, 1on1 ladder, and you can only play people ranked same (or equal) as you
if you want i can code this on something like ladder.quakeworld.nu using your qwnu login
get in touch with me on irc if this sounds cool

How about this?

Every clan signing up will be arranged a number, lets say 1-5 depending on skill level. If a lowered skilled clan will beat a higher skilled clan they will get more points. If a higher skilled clan wins over a lowerskilled (depending) on level they won't get as many points as if they would have played an equal or better team.

This way everone has a chance to get high in ranking. If fakers are used there will be a deduction of 50% of the points that would have been won in that game instead.

Also, to prevent clans from playing the same teams the scores from playing same team second time will be a bit lower than last time. Lets say there have to be 5 games in between the first time you played that clan until you can do it again and get maximum points. Otherwise you will only get 75% of the points second game, 50% third time and the lowest level like 25% if you play them a fourth, fift (...) time.

Just ideas for 4on4-ladder.

Might be something similar with 2on2 ladder, but maybe skill levels from 1 to 3 only?

Please tell me what you think..

To encourage more activity with the 1on1 ladder I think you should make it so any person can challenge another person regardless of skill/rank. Maybe also consider have A+/A/A- etc all the way down to d or f ranks next to players name to distinguish skill levels. Good example ladder site that has these features (for Starcraft): http://www.iccup.com. Also maybe a full fledged launcher program for the ladder that has a built in chat with current games that are open and registered as a ladder game. Might need some integration with KTX and the ladder launcher. I need to learn programming and stop throwing out the ideas, I just installed linux so that might facilitate that problem a little better.

Great work with the new ladder though phil, I hope it thrives.

the elo system currently weighs in frags into the equation, so i am guessing you won one map with a big frag margin, and lost two maps with very close scores

i'm still not sure if this is the proper way, but i think it is... we want to see who is the most skilled, and if we wanted to know who won more maps/matches, we could use a simple win percentage system
