Started out using the numpad: kp_forward +jump kp_5 +back kp_leftarrow +stepleft kp_rightarrow +stepright mouse2 +forward After a while found there was stuff i couldn't do so swapped kp_forward and mouse2 took me weeks to ajust. Kept a version of me original tho, called it smoking.cfg so i could play one handed

Always used mouse2.
Advantage: rocketjumps and a nice rhythm when moving Disadvantage: sometimes I screw up battles because it´s not easy to jump and fire at the same time, i.e. I jump/switch and then fire, becoming predictable.

I'm using w-a-s-d for moving and left shift for jumping.

Good ol space for +jump, the thumb just falls in place pretty nice ( using WASD for other movement) and it feels best to use all movement on the same hand.

Don't really play Quake anymore, and find myself using the default WASD key layout more with most games rather than the slightly odd SHIFT, ALT, A, Z I had always used with Quake. Surprised at how easy the progression between the two layouts was, and now I can quite happily switch between the two without *too* much grief You are not the only one played quake with SHIFT, ALT, A, Z I played with that layout for years, but for some reason i started using WASD lately. Yeah, it is easy to switch.

I used to play with SHIFT, A, Z & ALT too but moved to H, J, M & SPACE so that I can reach more additional buttons. Used to have +jump on SHIFT! but had to learn a whole new layout when I started out with bunny! (long story ) Anyway, nowadays +jump on mouse2!

i used space for like a long time then i saw the light of m2 jump and it was good There is no idea so good that it can't be ruined by a few well-placed idiots.

I use 'em both space in qw and mouse2 in q3

Why would you want to jump in q3? All you have to do is get really, really good with the machinegun. Then you win automatically. Teamplay is nothing. Aim is everything. OBEY YOUR AIM

97-98 : mouse2 99+ : space why did i switch? maybe because i started to lose vs headhunter in 99 and he was using space to jump so i felt i need to change something =) both has its advantages and disadvantages, the main reason for me was that if i use space for jump i can have all three mouse buttons for weapons +rl +shaft +gl and i can switch to another 3 weapons using just one button, its easier and faster... and of course its harder to rj when you jump/move on keyboard and fire on mouse... to gain something you have to lose something

How can rocketjumping with mouse1/space be any harder than rocketjumping with mouse1/mouse2? I don't have any problems with my mouse1/space combination at all. :]

magic word: coordination
its harder to coordinate two hands than two fingers from the same hand
