I got 500hz by not using setpoint and setting m_rate 500 in ezquake.

does that mean you use -m_smooth and -dinput in commandline?

coz -dinput is awful..

The usbmrs patch didn't work for me either.

Kept getting an error about the usbsys or some shit.

I have the same mouse and am only using 125hz at the moment as well.

That's odd. I am using "usbmrs11.exe" also, and it worked perfectly fine. 500Hz MX518 here.

Yeah usbmrs11.exe worked perfect at 500hz on my MX510 and MX518.

Joey try updating your Windows with automatic updates. Get SP2 first if you don't have it then auto update. Dunno if that would help but its worth a try.

I just tried it again, and in safe mode.

I keep getting: "couldn't find a valid sequence ERROR, use original windows usbport.sys".
WTF is that? - Somone please give me a rundown of how to install this sucker, in case im doing something obviously dumb.

I am already using SP2 win XP.

Also, do people still apply a mouseaccel fix for windows xp? or is that issue taken care of with Service Pack 2?

For qw and specifically ezquake you don't need mouseaccel fix but for some Unreal engine games its required if you want no accel.

Why would you want to upgrade an mx518 to 500Hz? As far as I know there will be no difference (unlike mx500 with 1000Hz).

You misread the article on ESR. Although the mouse has the same perfect control, clipped response, and malfunction speeds, it is STILL running at the specified mouse rate. At 500hz, the mouse is sending 500 pieces of data compared to 125 at 125hz. Basically for ever movement of the mouse, your PC should have more data to use to give a better and smoother view of it.

This is by far the best overclock program i think.

hz matter a lot. let say u have 125hz (standard) and u do a 180 swing with our mouse in 0.2 sec, then u would have just 25 readings for the 180, so the errormargin would be 7.2 degres. U would do a 180 +- 7 At 1000hz u would have 200 readings for a 180 at same speed, with is a lot smoother.

1000hz takes some cpu power
