After Quakeworld on a mobile phone, it's time for Quakeworld on a game console. This time the victim is Nintendo's Wii, and here's my development setup with Fodquake running on the Wii, with the output connected to the TV tuner card on the workstation It still needs a bit of work before it's fully usable. I also need to figure out how to best control Quakeworld with either the Wiimote or the Gamecube joypad... Ideas anyone?

Cant you fix it with one of those cute helmets where you can just shoot and kill with movements of the body?

bigfoot (20:09) : Ever used a Wii before? BuurVrouw (20:09) : nah bigfoot (20:09) : See that thing in the bottom left corner? BuurVrouw (20:09) : yeh that one finger vibrator bigfoot (20:09) : That's the controller. Plus the extra for the other hand ;-) bigfoot (20:09) : Hehehe, I knew you would be thinking about that bigfoot (20:09) : Didn't dare say anything, though bigfoot (20:09) : Anyway, the thing knows which direction it's facing and how it's rotated bigfoot (20:10) : So you could indeed do something like the helmet thingie, just you'd have to use your, ehrm, hand instead bigfoot (20:10) : The problem is when you spin all the way around bigfoot (20:10) : You can't just lift up your head, move it a bit and put it down again like you can with a mouse :-P BuurVrouw (20:11) : sure i can ever seen the exorcist?? BuurVrouw (20:11) : hahaha bigfoot (20:11) : LOL ;-) BuurVrouw (20:11) : well then surely that seems to be a nice thing to use then? BuurVrouw (20:11) : only maybe for weapon change BuurVrouw (20:11) : dunno about that bigfoot (20:12) : It would be cool if you were one of those sword wielding monsters... Then you could use the Wiimote, as it is called, to swing the sword :-) BuurVrouw (20:12) : yeh :-) BuurVrouw (20:13) : lucky it isnt rugby or so. would be nasty to swing your leg and then kick the button with your big toe bigfoot (20:13) : Hehehe. The Wii comes with a game called 'Wii Sports' bigfoot (20:13) : There's boxing in there :-) bigfoot (20:13) : And tennis bigfoot (20:13) : And, hmm, baseball I think BuurVrouw (20:16) : heheheh BuurVrouw (20:16) : ok i better go make a pot of coffee before i talk your topic full of nonsense

Oh my goodness...... will I ever be forgivven for my unhandy choice of words in english? I meant that perfectly normal, it is nothing weird. But to answer your question, yes, yes it does.

It is not my fault that the english language is full of innuendos. Somehow every normal meant word you say is turned into something weird or dirty.

i suggest using the nunchuck for moving forward, back, strafe left/right and jumping (Z button), and using the wiimote for shooting (primary weapon on B button, secondary weapon on A button), changing weapons on the cross (primary weapon on left/right, secondary on up/down). the primary/secondary weapon could be described as having +attack on mouse1 and changing primary weapon with impulses, while the secondary weapon would be on mouse2 and it would likely be +rl or something like that. the standard way of looking around (steering) is to point the wiimote to the part of the screen you want to turn. i don't think you will be able to bunnyjump on a wii unless you hack the client to allow toniks easyjump feature. also, you need to make the weapon sounds go through the wiimote, and vibrate on shooting cool project btw!
