First of all let me say hello to every one!
I' m new on this forum, i played qw from '98 to 01..then had to leave . I was good player in Italy, my country, always reaching finals of duel tournament, on line and in lan parties. Obviously we didn' t had the possibility to reach skills of northeuropean players, (lack of good internet connection and opponents...)
Now i' m back on qw and i can say that actual players are unbeatable for me , probably an half of people on this forum owned me and the other half will own me really soon.
But i don t giveup and keep on training.

My question is about shaft lag, i read a lot of post about that, but still have some doubts.

Lot of time ago when i played with glqwcl 2.30 shaft (if i remember well...) was less lagged, and shaftbeam was represented on monitor with 1 or 2 ms of lag in lan games, and just a little higher in internet games (in italy we had to play with ISDN at that time, with 50 ms ping on our servers and 80 ms on servers like Xs4all or Barrysworld.

Now with my adsl connection i have 45 - 50 ms ping on servers like wargamez or xs4all etc.. but shaft is really really hard to use.
Even when i play offline with lgc bot (so with ping 14) shaft rapresentation on monitor is really lagged (in a shaft fast track on the x axys is almost 1cm or more).

My questions are:

It's my problem,it' s changed something in this years, or my memory fails and i'm a poor lame?

My configuration now: ezquakegl, 800 x 600, cl_maxfps 77, m_filter 1, m_rate 125 with a USB pilot optical mouse (that sucks)

My configuration years ago : glqwcl, 640 x 480, m_filter 1 and a wingmangaming mouse Ps/2 with rate 200 Mhz

thank you very much hope to improve and kick your asses in short time

First of you shouldnt use m_filter as it lags the mouse. Secondly, i don't think the shaft lags more now than it did back then - but you can however fake it to look straight with cl_fakeshaft 0.1 to 1 (1 makes it follow the crosshair 100% 0.5 makes it semi follow it ) However this won't make the shaft hit where it points, it will however make it less distracting to look at. You can find your own best setting by playing a bit with it.

Just get on #qwrookie on irc.quakenet.org and find someone to play, there is a lot of new players there because of Ignition starting soon.

You should btw consider signing up for that, then you will get experience playing equal players.
