siikah, frames are drawn with a frametime so they are rendered 'evenly' across a second Roger that. Another fallen theory then.

but why the heck should be the frequency multiple of the fps? I set cl_maxfps 77 and monitor freq to 100hz anyway, in the game shows max 77fps but sometime the qw server send me the message that i'm using timedemo bug and my avarage fps is higher than 77. is this because of that i set my freq to 100Hz?

i can see the flickering of the 100hz neonlights in public places.. i have the vision master pro 454, it pulls 150hz @ 1280x800 and can do 280hz in 800x600 with 140hz+double scan

It shouldn't. anyway, in the game shows max 77fps but sometime the qw server send me the message that i'm using timedemo bug and my avarage fps is higher than 77. That happens when there's a lag and then a lot of packets arrive to the server in a short time and it looks as if you're cheating.

Why not cl_maxfps to atleast your monitor's Hz? And while your at it, set your mouse's HZ to ATLEAST equal to the screen Hz... a 40hz ps/2 mouse still looks like shit at 100hz-refresh when moving the mouse. This may effect most people using exploited vsync OFF and low mouse poll rates...

I have a mouse with usb port and as far as I know usb works on 120 Hz. USB specs go as far as 1ms polling rate (1000Hz) and you can even change it for mice that have 125Hz as a default by using certain software. The more recent mice might have this as an option and for example Logitech G5 defaults to 500Hz even without any kind of driver from the manufacturer (ie. windows default USB HID class driver works just fine).

Goqsane banned till new year for non respect to other users (once again). phrenic, correct action is to notify the admin, not to go wild on language or reply to provocation.

that's why we need more admins that checkes the forum, hundreds of old threads not been using, that's still unlocked etc.. good work tho.

This is just godawful. Banning a user for pointing out that sassa sucks? Why not ban the whole community? Teamplay is nothing. Aim is everything. OBEY YOUR AIM

I have recently changed my system but already played several rounds of FFA in the last two weeks or so w/o being accused to cheat.

I found this to be a great article (make sure to read the follow-up linked at the bottom too): http://amo.net/NT/02-21-01FPS.html
Nearly 7 years old now, but it's still the best written article I have found explaining the 'need'for >100fps.

but why the heck should be the frequency multiple of the fps? I set cl_maxfps 77 and monitor freq to 100hz There is but only one reason. If you run the monitor at the exactly same Hz as your fps, you'll get the smoothest possible outcome. If you use twice the Hz than fps (154Hz on 77fps) it is still smooth because the frametimes match for every second screen update (especially when running 1:1). If you set 77fps and run 100Hz or the other way around, you'll get some jerkiness (some people notice it while others don't, same as the thing with TFT vs CRT discussion, as some are more prone to noticing these things (and no, it's definitely no placebo)). Did those timedemo bug messages appear only recently? Because I am getting those too now. I have recently changed my system but already played several rounds of FFA in the last two weeks or so w/o being accused to cheat. I found about these warnings actually be KTX related stuff. With KTPRO servers I never get those but with KTX I see it happen, 99,99% of the time when someone is actually having lots of PL. So one shouldn't be concerned about this. Well ok, perhaps then when the server kicks you out of the server... well I'll talk to the KTX guys and see what happens.

Hehe.. getting kicked is my main concern actually. Got booted several times now. Good to see that it does not seem to be a client-sided problem though. Thanks.

Replying to an old post here, but..
As people have pointed out a persons susceptibility to visual updates is strongly linked to contrast, color and light conditions. In addition to that the display speed of the medium (CRT phosphor delay, LCD pixel response), image/object size and position relative to your focus, your own subjective experiences and the brains interpretation are important factors in how you percieve motion and visual updates. In controlled experiments it has been shown that a trained person can percept flicker up to thousends of Hz under the right conditions.
On a personal level I have no problem in distinguishing between 100 and 120fps in QW on my old CRT screen. The motion simply appears more fluid. At 72fps/hz the difference is huge, at which point I can also clearly see the flicker of the slower refresh. In fact it's noticably better even as low as 77.
As a curiosity, vision processing starts already in the retina. After light has been converted to electrochemical impulses by the photoreceptors, there are specialised (layer 2) cells which perform what can loosely be described as delta-compression - based on contrast - which are then fed to the brain through an optic nerve fiber, which connects to many photoreceptors. Infact, recent studies have shown than the optic nerve itself is involved in deciding where to distribute the signals to the different parts of the brain and where to position the eyes. Ie. a fast moving object in the periphery vision will cause the eyes to move and focus in a fraction of a second, a decition which seems to pre-empt the lower visual brain functions.
