Ok , i think i posted topic like this here a while ago , problem is 10 mins into a game , online or offline the gamma drops to complete darkness, now i was told this was a bug in ezquake but now i don't think it is , i.e thought i would load up a few other Free FPS warsow , nexuis and it happens in this too .

I have tried messing with the nVidia control panel , but ot still happens .

Any ideas ?

System

Ubuntu / Mint 5.0
XFX 7900GS Lastest nVidia driver build
2gb Mem
etc etc

known bug, no known fix other than binding a button to set the usual gamma back

I think this is related to DGA. DGA handles the mouse and keyboard input of quake in linux (if its available). During that time DGA handles the input directly without going through the XServer (probably very roughly spoken from a technical point of view). Which means that while you are playing quake the XServer is not registering any mouse of keyboard activity at all. After 10 minutes the screen blanking kicks in but at the same moment gets disabled again (when you make any input).

try "xset s off" to disable screen blanking
and "xset -dpms" to disable energy standby before running quake
