QWDL is going to have 26 divisions on the first season. How do I know this? Because I have admin access and can see the divs sorted by numbers and not by the current names which are: Div Zero, Champion 1-5, Pro 1-5, Intermediate 1-5, Rookie 1-5 and unnamed 1-5. Without my admin access I'd have to start counting manually, and that's quite hard for some of us... IMO it's just confusing to have all these special names for the divs, you understand better where you stand with just numbers. There is no connection whatsoever between "Pro Division 2" and "Pro Division 3". "Pro Division 2" is just one div higher than "Pro Division 3". Unfortunately, some people disagree with good ol' uncle Vloody. These people claim that: "I'm in Rookie Gold div" sounds much better than "I'm in division 11". So now it's up to you to decide!

Maybe this? I'm hoping to start my own league in the US soon, and this is what I am planning on using. That and a ladder ranking like 0-1500 since it will be a ladder. But letters might also work for you. S A B C D F ranked players. Shorten up the divisions by grouping people who are moderately close to each other.
You can even modify it further by adding + or -. In my opinion S shouldnt have a + or - though because it sounds/looks cooler.
S, A+, A, A-, B+, B, B- etc.

Divisions as usual: 0-6 Which means subdivisions like for example "div.2 group 4"

I don't really mind what we call them but there are a few unchangable things... The divs are ordered by skill. There will not be playoffs. AFAIK, this is the first QW Duel League (so there is no "as usual" . 4on4 skill is not the same as 1on1 skill. Div 0 - 99 is good bc it is very clear what div you are in but may be confused with 4on4 skill. Champion, Pro etc will be much better for irc pickup games ".qw pro skill duel @ ip". Div 0-26 please, don't see a reason to use some weird stupid names.

well, in pickup games you will know those players in div 0-5 so it will still be pretty easy to figure out if the guy is talking about his 1on1 or 4on4 div

I personally like the names for the divs, but the problem is there are just too many. So i go with 0-99.

A compromize has been found! Apparently Grump payed some kind of an expert consultant to come up with this idea... Too bad for rookies tho, who will have to say "I'm in rookie division 25", sounds like the worst thing in the universe more or less :|

why not just the div number? the name makes no sense now, when pro starts at 6.... Sounds like someone came up with names for all the divs, and are unhappy with the names not being used.

I was thinking of these kind of names: Division 6 (Pro) Division 19 (Intermediate) Division 25 (Rookie)
So this way it's basically based on numbers, but people can also spam something like: .qw Intermediate 1on1 @ wargamez.dk:27503
Tell me what you think...

Sounds like someone came up with names for all the divs, and are unhappy with the names not being used. Its nothing like that, its just that the vote is 50/50 so how can we please both halfs ;-)

well as i just said, it's good for finding even practice games, so the current system is good enough.

Although this is getting silly, if you only want the "pro" "beginner" etc to serve as an indication of how good the players in the division are, then why not put it after the number instead, to de-emphasize it; Division 99 (Rookies). www.facebook.com/QuakeWorld
