Here's the deal.
I was really impressed with the flash-tourney last sunday that was done in one day. I always liked those! I was also impressed by the relative success of my recent one-map tourneys. So I thought, why not put two and two together? Let's keep the ball rolling.
Here's my idea:
Every sunday (or saturday) four rounds of OFFICIAL QUAKE. Here is the format I propose: 16 man sign up limit by friday. First come First served. (Lineup finalized an hour before first round, to allow for last minute changes) One map, voted on each week by YOU! (Cant be the same map as last weeks) 4 SINGLE elimination rounds - Maybe 45 minutes for the first two rounds - Semifinals are played after each other - Then third place game? - Then final
PRIZES?!?!?! I'm thinking about this. Doesn't anyone care about bragging rights yet?
COMMENTS?
SUGGESTIONS?
SIGNUPS!?!?!?!?
MAP VOTES?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
thx, phil

I know you guys discussed this ad infinitum with the Dark Lords of our beloved QW High Council, but I would really like to see some of the arguments you had for durations etc. Haha, wrote a fucking novel and then realized that this is a duel tourney. Please clarify that in your summary Phil I was thinking about 8 players, 45min round, zzz DD Anyway, are all the rounds before Final bo3 or bo1? bo1 would probably make the tourney flow a lot nicer and quicker - not so much waiting for the winners. Final could then be bo3 or even bo5, although bo5 on one map is probably quite boring for both competitors and spectators, especially if you actually have to play all five rounds. Sign up time should probably be set to quite a short span, so that people know when to sign up. Should it just be x hours during Friday or Thursday at a set time. This way the spots wouldn't be filled up right after the previous one ends and when you sign up closer to the actual event, you are more likely to know for sure that you can attend Map voting would then be open from Thursday or Friday after the sign up until next sign up begins?

i had this idea a coulple of years ago for 4on4, but for some reason it stop at just an idea.
tourney done quick! was the name.
i think this kind of tourney is just what we need, its hard to plan to be active a whole season (eql, nqr etc.)

so this is like the king of Tuesday Kenya. Except it would be on a sunday or saturday.
Anyways. My sugestion is to split the signed 16 players into 8 noobs and 8 divZeroes
and run two tourneys like that.

as will said, this ain't so different from kenya tournaments. Use Kenya webpage? idea: every week admins choose 3 maps. players can vote here on the forum, or on the site, which map should be played that week.
I would also do like will said, starting maybe with 16 regular spots and 8 for rookies. Sassa has the experience here, he has done a fine job on ktk tourneys. never argue with an idiot. they'll bring you back to their level and then beat you with experience.

Very nice idea! But I suggest to extend player limit to 32 and keep of course pro and rookie divisions with player limit depending of how many pros and rookies sign. Map vote - admins should propose 3 maps to vote for. Signups and map vote should be open for example 2 or 3 days before tourney starts. I think sunday is the best day for that kind of tourney. Good luck guys!

Yesplzx. However I can already imagine all the zzzz "i have to play eql" excuses. I agree. Making this happen during the week is the best. but i guess it isnt possible for phil. never argue with an idiot. they'll bring you back to their level and then beat you with experience.

One suggestion: make a real time-schedule, whole tourney should not be longer than 2-2.5 hours

I like the idea.the ktk/ftk tourneys were great with short rounds and good mappool. their websites were also well done, maybe that system can be used again?

i can get it to 2-3 hours with third place match. 2.5 hours or less without third place edit: times do not include grand final

Don't forget to factor in time between rounds, will be insanely hard to have a game finish and expect the next round to start instantly.
Also I don't see why a short break between matches is a bad thing..
