Anxiety from playing Quake or anxiety during playing Quake?
If you feel excited while playing Quake then it is natural :>

I see what you mean. It is very common I think. People don't like losing. To solve this you need to build up confidence. Then the post-game anxiety will go away. One technique which can work is if you play with "unnamed" or "player". You aren't fake nicking as someone else, just playing with no name. This way you will in a buddhist sense remove "the self" and will be able to play more clearly. Other people smoke a lot of pot or chew a lot of snus.

yeah cannabis is the way to go... hehe or find some super div0 player to team with, i only play 2on2. some ppl can take long breaks and play good it seems, or they just fake and the change nick when they are done practising or whatever.. to bad qw take so much time, it should be like riding a bike instead, I really hate fakers, and im really lazy changing teammsg and stuff, and its really easy to see that its me thats playing

It is like riding a bike, it just takes a tad longer to get into the groove again. You could also try avoiding playing players that you usually play in the beginning - i bet it's much more stressfull to lose/play even against players that you normally beat. www.facebook.com/QuakeWorld

it's just a game ffs. A game that is often more fun to play if you win. www.facebook.com/QuakeWorld

it's just a game ffs. A game that is often more fun to play if you win. sure it is. i don't know, 'anxiety' sounds kind of bad. if you feel seriously bad if you're not winning my advice would be to focus on enjoying the game more and not to try to win no matter what.

Can't say that I get anxiety. It's more like anger and I start to moan, yell, or beat the table with my fist. But only during play and when I play like shit. After hitting the quit bind it's all okay.

I think anxiety has to do with the fact that you are bored with the game in general. I get that sometimes. Whenever you feel bored with something its better not to push it and start doing something else.

Its not that im bored with the game, its the most exciting game ever and always will be. Its the road to get as u was before the break that sucks ass.

It's normal. Qw stimulates very much the adrenal glands. Persistence and marijuana, will help. "Together we stand, divided we fall"

hey nice topic. think i know what you mean...when you're rusty a lot of your focus is on correcting your aim which takes away your focus towards the opponents. after many years of experience i've found a good way to combat this is to be over agressive, kinda like reppie on crack (and perhaps blindfolded) and just charge opponents as though you are 10 times faster than them, this way their defenses (although probably easily destroying you at first) seem slower, and easier to recognize.

basically i mean forget tactics and aim and just use pure agression, the game and everyone else fighting you seem a lot slower then, and the rest comes back to you as you play

try to concentrate on what you are doing try not to miss your shots and movements think I know how fustrating Quake can be... being bounced all over seems like you can't control shit try camping, buying your own place in the map try to play cold, forget how strong your opponent is, play by the book if needed go play with bots to learn how a simple mistake can change the whole map control aim for perfection cheers

Heh, i get more and more for each day not playing. I will probebly have to play bots and trickmaps for 2 weeks before confident enough to show myself again. And still, no one would expect anything from me to begin with :< Weed helps but still takes time to get in "qw-mood", and gets expensive to smoke 3 joints per warmup :> (and not always helping the tp My plan for my next quakeperiod (no internet and crashed pc atm) is shorter sessions. I think this would help me. Its ridicilous(?) to demand oneself to perform as well after 10min warmup as if been playing 6hours straight. I hope this will ez up on my own demands and make me perform more evenly.. playing a couple of nights a week without warmup and just for a couple of hours at a time. And i do like to play my friends to begin with

Cannabis will induce less anxiety. I tested myself. http://slip.4.pl/ - unblocking myspace facebook firewall

I'm not trolling, obviously NOTHING worked when I played it, but I had so much fun while doing it. I thought Quake was 2 x faster. Anxiety = nihil. http://slip.4.pl/ - unblocking myspace facebook firewall

in that case see my first point. quake&weed go together pretty well. it's healthier to deal with anxiety in some other way than smoking (much).

Well, I suck in QW. And pretty much sure I'll always suck -- I'm old and have no talent. When I started playing, I tried to be very agressive -- I lost with a big score. I couldn't get a frag, etc. And I got sad. About 2 years later I still played agressive and I still lost games vs even new players (not newbies). But I got used to lose. Now (after about 3 years of playing) I try to play cold, camp when it's needed and attack when I have advantage. I try to win no matter what if I feel I have a chance. I try not to play a lot vs players who absolutely own me. And I play vs bots sometimes. And I don't feel sad now.
I.e. if I want to have fun I play the way that will ultimately be fun for me. Mindless running around is fun, but not for long.
BTW: There are FFA servers to have fun. But FFA fells a little bit unnatural and fake and nobody cares about you in FFA. -- "Dag eats little Reloads for breakfast." (c) :-)

When I started I got beat badly by PzyX every day, just like Unreal I played too aggressive in the beginning and I used sens 30(!) But I just kept playing even if I got pissed everytime I died and now I beat him more than losing, every victory was a small step towards feeling better.
