Sorry to post this, I'm probably doing something obvious wrong but I've looked through the forum and can't find someone with a similar problem.

Hoping someone can help me.

I downloaded the latest ezQuake install.

First I installed my original Quake CD with the v1.01 pak files. Ran the 1.01 to 1.06 patch (only patches pak0 right?). Installed ezQuake into the Quake dir with id1 folder.

Now if I run ezQuake, everything's fine, but nothing looks different except I now have shiny rocket trails, Quad glows a nice blue, etc. But all of the map textures, the lava, items like MH, all looks just like it always did.

Where are the textures? Is there something additional that I need to extract?

I saw on some posts mention of a \textures dir under qw, I don't have this, but I'm assuming it has since been put in a pak or pk3 file?

Appreciate any help!

Forgot to ask, is it necessary to VIS the maps? I remember doing this way way back when GL quake was first released. That allowed for opacity on the water and lava.

yes, nquake for the new models and textures. ezquake doesn't come with these, it's just the client.
for the transparency effect you just need to use "r_novis 1" and "gl_turbalpha 0.5" to set the level of transparency.

i'm still trying to figure out a way to have transparent teleporters without transparent lava, which looks stupid with my lava texture

edit: congrats on still owning the original cd

Hehe, for a laugh, here's the readme.txt from the original CD. Makes me feel pretty old.

************************************************************************
*** Welcome to the REGISTERED VERSION 1.01 of Quake! ***
************************************************************************

Please check out the README.TXT file for the lastest-breaking info on
this version.

If you want to give your friends the Shareware 1.01 version of Quake,
go into the SW directory and type 'install'. PLEASE DON'T INSTALL THIS
REGISTERED VERSION OF QUAKE ON ANYONE ELSE'S MACHINE! We worked very
hard for long amounts of time to create this game and would appreciate
your support.

Quake System Requirements
-------------------------
IBM PC and Compatibles
Pentium processor HIGHLY recommended, 486DX4/100 Minimally required
VGA Compatible Display or better
8MB RAM minimum, 16MB recommended (16 MB required for running under Win95)
CD-ROM drive Required
MS-DOS 5.0 or better or Windows 95 (does NOT run under Windows NT)
Hard Drive (30MB for Shareware, 80 MB for Registered)

*** IMPORTANT!: Quake requires a floating point processor.
Systems that do not have an FPU installed will not run Quake -- at all.

Installing Quake:
You must install Quake to your hard drive before you can play, it
will not run off the CD-ROM. Place the CD-ROM into your drive, log
on to that drive (i.e. 'D:\') type 'INSTALL' and press Enter. If you
have downloaded Quake via modem, simply go to the directory you've
placed Quake in, unzip it, type 'INSTALL' and press Enter.

Thank you,

id Software, inc.

Just a side note:
If I remember correctly the 'r_novis 1' setting can really make your fps drop.
Maybe not an issue here but the client does the map VIS thingy in real time with that on. I could be wrong though
Not many servers have 'serverinfo watervis 1' anyway :|

Transparent water/lava/slime/teleporters is considered a cheat btw. My advice: don't bother to use it at all.

keep in mind that if you use r_novis 1 on a server without watervis'ed maps, you will see through the water/lava but not see any of the entities on the other side.
