OMG Electro, this is great, when the player model is done, are you gonna do a matching armor set? I guess that shouldn't be that big an issue, just putting the torso and the shoulderpads together

So will we get to see PrimeviL create some textures for these models?

Zalon: don't see why not! - I actually think I might redo the shoulders... they're moreso based off the q3 ones atm, but i think making them more like the q1 ones might be nicer... we'll see! - not going to redo them yet.. will work on other things first People want more pics... so here's a very early work in progress on the face in mudbox: http://bayimg.com/kaMJiAabG I might actually start the arm/hands now, and at least have everything done in a rough state, then i can go make it all nicer Next up, arms, then pants! http://www.bendarling.net | http://www.reflexfps.net

quick update, the arm: http://bayimg.com/AAMjFAabH
The proportions etc. look absolutely ridiculous, but they're faithful to the q3 ranger :\
I'll most likely have to go through the entire model when everything is together and jiggle parts around and change shapes a bit so they don't look stupid. http://www.bendarling.net | http://www.reflexfps.net

Hot damn, this looks awesome. With this, and a new shaft model, you need never look at anything from the original quake ever again!

pants first pass: http://bayimg.com/DaMnhAabh
...and yeah, that makes everything done with at least first pass now, i can piece it all together, will do that sometime today maybe.
Not sure how far I'll bother to take the details in the additional passes, will have to wait and see. http://www.bendarling.net | http://www.reflexfps.net

pants first pass: http://bayimg.com/DaMnhAabh this looks really good. but shouldn't the KNEE protectors go a bit lower on the legs...? edit: ok, i checked with the original and they are not really knee protectors.. but something else? yours are a bit smaller though so the placement is more noticable. anyways, the screenshot looks nice.

people think they're knee protectors, but i think they're actually thigh pads, at least that's what they're as on the q3 ranger http://www.bendarling.net | http://www.reflexfps.net

Fantastic work with the player model (the weapons also looks promising of course), seems like you go for toonish proportins on him which probaly will turn out real nice.
You make alot of detail on ranger so I suppose that you are going to bake normal maps and maybe some ambient occlusion, Darkplaces must be your target engine, or are you going to do a version for ezQuake?

Guran: Cheers! The proportions are currently like the q3 ranger, but I'll most likely change them to my liking later on.
Yeah there will be a normalmap/specular and ambient occlusion will be part of the diffuse. I'll probably have a diffuse texture for 'oldschool' stuff, that will have it as if all those details are baked into a single texture from a fixed lighting setup.
The main reason I've done the character is for skeletal animation though, in FTE. FTE also supports normalmaps and the whole next-gen thang. http://www.bendarling.net | http://www.reflexfps.net

Would be nice to have a low poly optional version in MDL format for basic GPL distribution?

SputnikUtah: quake1 already comes with one of those ... but as for plain .mdl format... I don't know, unlikely, it's such a poor format. put in the non hard surface parts: http://bayimg.com/maMNjAABh now apparently all he needs is a gridiron ball or something o_O http://www.bendarling.net | http://www.reflexfps.net

MOST. EPIC. RANGER. MODEL. EVER!!!
Man, if ezQuake won't be able to support it in future, i'm switching to FTE.
crap, i need to buy new pc to handle all this hi-poly stuff people make nowadays!

Just look att that last picture, looks so heavy, don't change anything. Is the skeletal animations format the same in FTE as in Darkplaces? Will have to play through that singleplayer campaign again with this player model.

Just one complaint about that model. The boots are too big, they look like buffalos.
Otherwise, extremely well-made!
