Hi! Has anyone tried qw on a netbook? I have asus eee 901 without any modifications, running windows on it. Has anyone tried QW on a netbook? Been thinking of connecting it to a crt monitor and use usb mouse/keyboard and play on it but dont have the time atm if you have tried it, what settings etc makes it run best? is software better than gl? etc..

As a "netbook" is nothing else than a small normal computer it all depends on its specs. No difference to a PC.

i used notebook with crt monitor mouse/keybord for 3 years. It works good if you have good processor, graphic card etc, and FPS are good. + it takes less space on desk + you can simply take it for qhlan + you can play without electricity :E for 2-4 hours - notebook getting warm if you have it all day on and the baterry is getting worse if you use notebook as a pc - some problems with FPS im my case and with displayfrequency on my CRT (when i had a notebook i have 100hZ now on my pc the same crt i have 160hZ) - graphic card must be not on the motherboad - cooling stuff can make some noise if you play long time GL

GL is a way to go. But to get 77 fps, you'll need to play with graphics from 1999. Turn off new particles, dynamic lighting, 24-bit textures etc. in ezquake. Maybe even use original hud. Don't put any new models (maybe debug, they have the same polycount, but without 24-bit skins). If you still will have framerate issues experiment with picmip and gl_max_size. And i've noticed that on small screens it is better to use r_drawflat 1 with some bright wall/floor colors, you see better where enemies and items are.
Also, some of "lite" linux distros would be better choice, system would take less resources than xp, and you'll get better performace.

I play mqwcl.svga in 320x200@70hz/77fps, with an external crt monitor (some bug in svgalib, that why only 70hz, and because of that bug fuhquake and ezquake feels like crap, must run mqwcl because of ultra smoothnes :}) I have: Thinkpad X60 Intel Core2Duo 2.0ghz (667mhz fsb) - 4mb cache 80gb hdd /7200rpm, 8mb 2gb ram. 12" monitor etc. 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and 945GT Express Memory Controller Hub (rev 03) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) PCI Express Port 1 (rev 02) 00:1c.1 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) PCI Express Port 2 (rev 02) 00:1c.2 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) PCI Express Port 3 (rev 02) 00:1c.3 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) PCI Express Port 4 (rev 02) 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI Controller #1 (rev 02) 00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI Controller #2 (rev 02) 00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI Controller #3 (rev 02) 00:1d.3 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI Controller #4 (rev 02) 00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller (rev 02) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge (rev e2) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC Interface Bridge (rev 02) 00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) IDE Controller (rev 02) 00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation 82801GBM/GHM (ICH7 Family) SATA AHCI Controller (rev 02) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) SMBus Controller (rev 02) 02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82573L Gigabit Ethernet Controller 03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (rev 02) 15:00.0 CardBus bridge: Ricoh Co Ltd RL5c476 II (rev b4) 15:00.1 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Ricoh Co Ltd R5C552 IEEE 1394 Controller (rev 09) 15:00.2 SD Host controller: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C822 SD/SDIO/MMC/MS/MSPro Host Adapter (rev 18) GL lags like a fucking monkey unless playing in really strange modes (640x400@154hz+fuhquake-gl rocks)

I think it's usually the integrated gfx cards on laptops/netbooks that makes GLQW a pain to play in. Shouldn't be a problem with software mode (but that sucks). :I Thinking about getting one of those eee pc's too actually. www.facebook.com/QuakeWorld
