Hi there.. i'm in charge (along with two other dudes) of a new brazillian 2on2 tourney project - ( http://ultimato.tourney.cc ) .
Recently we have had a really hard time on some players that uses Midgrid audiopack along with a tiny other pak with some new implements, not really sure from whom. Those are the original pak file names:
Higher Frequency Quake wavs (All 44KHz).pak
Quake Sound Conversion 44.1KHz 16Bits.pak
I'm restrict in the rules about f_modified. Since EZquake does not allow these modified sounds on its security check, I believe they shouldn't really be there.
The users just won't give it away, and some polemics are going on on brazillian forums, so i need some general input from client experts, tourney admins, etc.
> the first impression for me is that the pak sounds (with 44khz @ ezquake) are a bit fuggy .. and not better at all than EzQuake's 44khz sounds.. I recorded some 4on4 demo playback match sounds with both setups and the results are here:
Pak new sounds with 44khz
EzQuake sounds with 44khz
I sent these to one of the players that refuses to play without these sounds, and he confirmed that EzQuake's sound are clearer.. but Pak sounds have some more lengths .. so he can hear better from greater distances. He said:
Using the pak sounds, when i'm at Yellow Armor, I can hear when a enemy jumps off ra-door/ring>quad area and is comming.. That i cannot do using Ezquake's original sounds.
> they also claim that FTE Client does not point any modified sounds at f_modified - that was explained at QWDL rules :
I assumed than that FTE restrcting the lenght of sounds would make 'em equal to EzQuake's 44khz sounds (lenght wise, ofc) so there wouldn't be any real 'benefit' on using these pak sounds, since it would have the same lenght as ezquake's being only a bit more fuggy. And since we're trying to run the tourney only with Ezquake 1.8.3 > (stable releases) allowed.. woudln't make mutch sense not to remove the paks and simply play with ezquake sounds..
But then, the same user replied that at FTE he could hear the player doing a ring-to-quad-ya area jump while in YA, such as he mentioned before..
So we're a bit on a dillema.. here..
either keep things as they are now: - only ezquake with clear f_modified check.
or to allow FTE with these sounds .. since with EZquake some people could get some of these files edited to get even louder and then claim that these were simply the sound packs.. [ I assume here that FTE would restrict or accuse these aberrative modifications.. as described on QWDL rules]
Thanks in advance for your time and any of your concern.

Exception: FTE users are allowed to modify models and sounds since FTE restricts things like models sizes and sound lengths to prevent cheating. Such users will simply return nothing on the f_modified check.
