I do too. Played a bit of CA in the beginning which was pretty no-brain entertaining, and some DM 1on1. I got bored though. :\

I have question for ppl who have beta accounts - any idea how long it takes QL to be released? In summer i read somewhere it should be fall 2008, but since then id didn't provide any info about progress or game at all. Is Team Arena stuff already in? Are maps with addon weapons (nailgun, prox mines, chaingun) included and played? Competetive Q3 scene rejected Team Arena, so i'm curious how things are in QuakeLive. If Team Arena stuff will be played on big tournaments, this can be whole different game than vQ3. Imo better - chaingun in TA was actually good weapon to counter railgun-whoring players, and nailgun was effective enough to select it instead of shotgun. Never liked mines, it's like they are out of place in Q3 gameplay.

Release is when it's done. I played some CTF with the Team Arena stuff in it, so yes, I guess.

O.o i just open http://beta.quakelive.com/beta/#home, i write my account info (you need to make 2 accounts, one for the ID beta stuff and another one for quakelive), i login and all working, its very intuitive, when you make your id beta account, you must write the beta-key i sent u "the quieter you become, the more you are able to hear"

For all ppl who don't know yet - QL is going open beta this week. I suggest to give it a try, game still need to be polished more (that's why it's still beta ), but it's worthplaying imo. IMO it's best Quake id released since QW, and most complete of id work when it comes to customization and features. Sure, it's still based on Q3 - but right now gameplay is totally different - finally, some air control, still can't bunny, but strafejumping is easier and more fluent, weapon balance has changed for better - no longer cheap 100 dmg railgun!, circle shotgun pattern, Team Arena guns, maps tweaked to movement and re-build etc. etc. Game use some gfx and sfx assets from Q3 - but plays different. It's much faster, more balanced, harder to master, and more rewarding. A bit of hybrid of vQ3, CPM and fresh ideas. When i look at how UT3 failed, i think right now QuakeLive is ONLY chance to have popular and strong competetive 'classic deathmatch' game back on e-sport scene. Support it. From all Quakes, it's only second to QW!

Tried it today, quite nice gameplay. Feels pretty smooth. The only thing that i miss is air control, but even that can be dealt with. Open beta in 2 days

It's not open beta. There's a waiting line even for registered user. Took 20min to get in but now the line is gone for me. Might start playing it a little, at least on drunk. EDIT: Add friend 'shaga' if you like. TEAM QUAD [need nothing] shaga loses another friend shaga discovers blast radius QUAD

Eh? It is open beta.... the queue system is just to even the load so the servers won't get hammered

so i need to wait 1+ hour to play quakelive? "the quieter you become, the more you are able to hear"

It seems they didn't predicted so many people will be interested. I was 49133 in queue... It's first week of open beta, and really lot of people want to try it (almost all Quake players + most of fps players + dudes that don't know what is it about but thik "free game, looks good, and plays in web-browser? cool, something to do at work!" , so they had to came up with solution. I'll guess they'll upgrade their servers and add new units to support more players soon. Eventually, they'll have to, when QL comes out of beta-stage - game with 1+ hour of wait to LAUNCH won't attract casual players, and this project is aimed at them more than any other competetive deathmatch fps. I won't bother to login for a few days... until then i'll just play QW.

And after that, you'll just play qw The queue system is just a temporarily solution, and with the queue counts I've seen it might get very big, hell they got more people in queue than people playing all other quake games combined But that will even out at some point.
