Now when there're plenty NQR/EQL action, commentary and Sassa & Co are making (hopefully) videos of EQL/duelmania finals, I had this idea: how about making not only individual skins (i know people have been using these) but also individual models for players? Or is this impossible in quake engine?
I'd love to watch matches/demos/avis with individual skins/models for griffin, dag, reppie... like griffin looking like a griffin and such, something like in Q3. Wouldnt you like to see that?
So, i'm asking.. is this possible and who makes the coollest outfit for Reppie?

there's your player model standing right there got it set up ready for a model and about 20% of the original quake animation completed...

very nice indeed mister. but would it be possible to have different models for different players? Like in Q3?
(btw. I don't like Q3)

you'll have to ask the engine developers, i have no idea...

custom skins by player name i think would be enough.. changing the player model is not very nice. the quakeguy is the symbol of the game

I would be happy if we got the possibility of use 24bit skins. :/ https://tinyurl.com/qwbrasil - QuakeFiles

you could just modify the existing player model with more polygons to make him smoother. But, I think multiple models would be cool, but the best avenue for this would be to use .md2 or .md3 models. Though animations for multimodel md3's is a bit tedeous. Ruohis: thats a nice looking start to your player model. But could you make him a bit more muscular? It IS a marine!

easier to create a whole new one than to mofify the old one you would still have to recreate the texture cordinates and do hours worth of tweaking btw, when (not now, much later) i make a player model i will make the texture cordinates fit to the original skin, natrually

Don't mess with the models!!! Quake is an old game, that's why I like it. Let's keep it old.

Q3, CPMA have the "any model you wnna be" covered, lets just have some nice 24bit skins that you can change the top n bottom color on....is that possible?

don't start dreaming about mysterious creacher models, when the time comes i'll make a hig polygon version of the old one, nothing else. so that you can make out the armour, boots, helmet and hands, but the same shape, size and basic looks.

DD yes its possible... added 24bit skins & luma jersey skins to players

And those skins respect the top- and bottomcolor? I only remember clients where you have to use gl_nocolor 1 to make 24 bit player skins work. Ok, and the fact that you have to use luma maps shows me that they do not respect the fullbright-commands of clients, right?

THAT luma texture is emitted thru if (gl_fb_models.value && gl_fullbrightskin.value) { ... means it still tailors to the fullbrights ruleset...ie in my client i disallow online. at this point im more so making it available, not creating a smackdown ruleset option. and btw this isnt QW, its NQ based. Buts shares similar code base. So, its possible. I'm not gonna make EZXYZQuake just to confuse more people... but the source is open yet anyone with half a brain an photoshop can create a player_x_luma.png, x = 0 thru 32, and ALL players despite their team are highlighted in that luma texture. but im still against fullbrights myself. A fight in a dark area is still a fight to the death by rocket light!

hm, i say that (insert variable here that only works in gl and that displays a nick over players head and that is hard to remember when youre drunk after the melodifestval) 1 is enough!

is this faithfull enough? It's not much but it's a start in the image above you can see the new model (untextured and textured), the original texture and what i have used to texture the new model, (the texture cordinates are in the exact same place as the originals...)

could someone hire Ruohis to work for qw all the time? He does stuff fast and with more time qw would be something for the cskiddies to droole over? (ui, correct my spelling if its in need )

if someone would hire me then i wouldn't have to work, then i could model all day and make a living, and get all models done within a few months
