I am looking for sales numbers on Doom, Quake, UT, HL, CS but also Tekken, Streetfighter, Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil and what not. Cool would be a list of games with sales numbers. Those sales numbers will go into a paper for university so I a serious and reliable source would be great.

Doesn't most companies release this stuff themselves? Go to their website and check if they have shared them or heck even give them a call.

the numbers released by the companies should not be trusted...

But on the other hand there might not be better numbers around.

Why should they not be trusted? If they aren't accurate investors will be able to accuse them for fraud..

As i understood, sales numbers presented to investors in $

and not how many copies you have sold / given away.

Don't forget that doom and quake were released as shareware. Depending on what you need the numbers for, that may be quite significant. Similar with CS as a HL mod.

Dunno the exact numbers in the end but the retail version of Quake sold about 250000, the shareware surely much more. I'd just mail id Software and ask (please share the numbers).
