I just found out, people who have to use vid_restart everytime after an alt tabbed because it broke your gamma. This doesnt happen when i uninstalled setpoint, alt-tab works perfectly without the need for a restart. Also johnny_cz.cfg which i downloaded from this site, the alt-tab works the way it should when using his .cfg Does anybody know what cause the gamma to break and how come johnny's cfg doesnt do it?

i had the same probl some years ago with ati cards, just bind 2 keys e.g. with gamma 0.70001 and 0.70002, and be happy

With the ATI drivers, its because the drivers change your gamma when you switch between fullscreen and windowed modes, so you can have different levels of gamma in different modes...
Of course, this means that it conflicts with everything overwriting the gamma that you requested more often than not.
Presumably it can be worked around by changing the gamma a frame later.

Yeah but it worked properly when I UNINSTALLED logitech setpoint mouse drivers, and used windows drivers. so it cant be the ATI drivers??

Could be a conflict between the two. I don't really see how mouse drivers would change the gamma on their own. Nor do I really see how they'd conflict with ATI's drivers. But yeah, run two programs at the same time that both change gamma levels and you end up with race conditions and thus the wrong gamma.

i had the same problem since i bought a new ati card. vid_forcerestoregamma 1 fixed it for me. thanks johnny! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I went on a diet, swore off drinking and heavy eating, and in fourteen days I had lost exactly two weeks.

vid_forcerestoregamma 1 really solves that out.. for the cases that u ALT+TAB and stuff.. but if for some reason the screen just went back ( like some other background activity such as MSN messenger or other stuff/programs that tries to pop out while u're playing.. u can always adjust a gamma correction to a button that its already there ( so that u don't have to reach for some button far away..
i've just added this to my SCORES bind .. and it's really helpful ( had the idea in Quake 3.. since it doesn't have any command like vid_forcerestoregamma..)
bind TAB "+showteamscores;gl_gamma 0.56;wait;gl_gamma 0.55"

Hi, sorry but i'm having a problem, i'm using 2 monitors, but when qw is running fullscreen in one screen, the other screen's gamma turns bright as qw. vid_hwgammacontrol 0 fixes it, however qw gamma doesn't change, i mean, qw gamma becomes 1, which is too dark. So atm i need to select qw with dark with Win fine, or qw fine with Win bright. How can fix this?
Edit: I'm using nVidia, by the way "the quieter you become, the more you are able to hear"

I use hwgammacontrol 0 and set my gamma using video card drivers. In ATI CCC you can create colour profiles to set gamma for each monitor and activate via hotkeys. For example, I use alt+ctrl+1 to set gamma to normal on both monitors, and alt+ctrl+2 for high gamma on main monitor.

I can't do it with nVidia, or i don't know why. In other games works fine, what's up with QW? Couldn't be just qw gamma, or qw-screen gamma? :< "the quieter you become, the more you are able to hear"
