Actually I'm asking on behalf of a friend. But I do admit I am tempted. Just seems a bit expensive for such a small upgrade. The Asus is also almost 100 euro more expensive. Do you have reasons for why you think the Asus is better?

I've heard that from BenQ eyes hurt. And he's a bad color.

Gosh... My impulse control is very weak at times... I can confirm that the lightboost hack works amazingly on the XL2411T. It really is silky smooth. Unfortunately, it screws your colors and sharpness of textures over, but for QW smoothness, this is truly amazing. Weirdly enough, in 144 Hz it's really crap, unless you use v_sync (which of course is unthinkable).

I am on a 60Hz MacBook Pro. What difference does these screens really make (especially for a rookie)?

HUGE difference. not only in qw, but other games ofc, and if you have sensitive eyes, even on the desktop. 60hz screens never again in my home. (not even tvs) i bought my LG w2363d for 200€ and you can buy display port -> dvi adapter in dx.com for a couple of euros also. no excuse if u ask me. never argue with an idiot. they'll bring you back to their level and then beat you with experience.

HUGE difference. Absolutely. Unplayable on 60Hz in comparision. and you can buy display port -> dvi adapter in dx.com for a couple of euros also.
Yes you can, but you will only get 60Hz with that from a laptop like he has. You need a dual-link active DVI adapter. These ones cost about 100euros and people seem to have mixed success with it, atleast a couple of years ago. Probably works better today due to the fact that 120Hz+ screens are becoming more and more available.

I have an old MBP (2009) with nVidia GeForce 9600M GT 512MB. It says the MiniDisplayPort to dual-DVI will support an external display at 2560x1600, while single-DVI supports 1920x1200. So that should make it possible to have 120Hz on lower resolution, bandwith-wise, no? I don't know if this math makes sense to you: 2560x1600 x 60Hz = 245,7 mill. 1680x1050 x 120Hz = 211,7 mill. (lower, should be possible?) 1920x1200 x 60Hz = 138,2 mill. 1280x800 x 120Hz = 122,9 mill. (lower, should be possible?) I know QW-gaming on MBP might not be kosher, but the Mac stays, end of discussion.

I know QW-gaming on MBP might not be kosher, but the Mac stays, end of discussion. IIRC the problem is that it needs a second clock signal, hence why the active adapter has electronics and cost a lot more. EDIT: Upon reading about DVI it seems like it's all up to bandwidth. Over 165MHz bandwidth requirement you need to add a second pixel clock and use dual link. So I think the main problem is what I mentioned below, or it's the monitors that's designed that way, I'm not sure. The 120Hz+ monitors that I know of can only run it's native res @ high freq, they just render black pixels if ran at a lower res. (Bandwidth requirement should be same as for native res.)

27" felt big for the first month or so, now I don't even notice it being that big anymore. More like "it could be bigger" at the moment

More like "it could be bigger" at the moment its more about pixel density.. after using my iphone now since christmast, the pixels on my 1080p 24" are staring at me hauntingly.. : S resolution and hertz, high quality audio.. one way trip.. -______- any news? anyone got the new screens? maybe some detailed testing with lightboost! <3

I've had my Benq XL2411T for a week now and its pretty sweet execpt the colors, but i dont really care so much. I don't play much qw these days but played a couple of rounds lately. With 120hz i can see ghosting but not so much on 144hz. Decided to try the Lightboosttrick. and its like playing on good old CRT, like zero ghosting and supersharp at 120hz. Colors gets a bit worse again. Still if you want maximum performance try it .

For me, both 120hz and 144hz on this monitor felt worse than than on the good, old samsung 2233rz 120hz, but with lightboost it is incredibly smooth. Not even a hint of ghosting or distorted object, even with superfast QW speed. I have no clue how input lag gets affected by it. Probably not much.

does that mean you are capping your FPS to 120 when using the Lightboosttrick?

The XL2411T is reported to work very, very well with Lightboost. If you're planning on using Lightboost, I could warmly recommend it. If you're not planning to use Lightboost, I would not recommend it.

If you're not planning to use Lightboost, I would not recommend it. Why wouldn't you recommend it without Lightboost? Because you found the 2233 better? I actually have a 2233 myself also. My reasoning for upgrading isn't just gaming... I want the higher resolution (1080p) and larger size 24" or 27" (both for photography/image manipulation purposes). So I have to get whichever one will give me the best upgrade for both these reasons...

So I have to get whichever one will give me the best upgrade for both these reasons... Well, I'm basically only speaking out from a gaming perspective. If I was interested in photo editing and stuff, I would probably go for something completely different. (16:10 IPS panel f.ex). Based on that, without Lightboost, I simply found the XL2411T to be less smooth than the 2233rz. With lightboost is something entirely different when it comes to smoothnes, but the color quality and sharpness of pixels is drastically reduced as well. *** edit: If I were you, I'd probably then stick to the 2233rz for gaming, but buy an IPS instead of a quite expensive 144hz for your photo duties.

I would not work with any of these screens, I'm trying to build a new config, I'm buying ips for work and saving for an additional gaming screen with shit colors and contrast but good response time, and I think i'll go for the benQ. Also don't pick a 1080p 27" for photo/video editing, you'll only see the pixels ( sadly a 2560*1600 27" is still way too expensive )
