Let's see what kind of material are people's mousepads made of. I'll write down an example list, it doesn't mention all the mousepads out there but gives a direction of what there could be.
1) Normal cloth: SteelSeries QcK or similar.
2) Plastic: Func, Steelpad SP, majority of hard mousepads these days.
3) Aluminum: SteelSeries SX or Razer eXactMat.
4) Glass: Icemat and Steelseries I2.
5) Multi-layered: Mousepads that have more than one layer, for example SteelSeries 5L that has 5 layers.
6) Other/specify: Something that wasn't mentioned above. You could use your mouse on top of your table, or perhaps even on top of an A4 paper. Whatever suits you the best.

Plastic Steelpad, though I'm thinking of getting a new one. Basically it's getting too small for my ever decreasing sensitivity and I would like something with less friction (or maybe I should just start using Teflon tape). Also, the rubber stuff on the back is worn off in many places, so the mat slides around a bit, which of course is VERY annoying. Overall though, I've been quite satisfied with it.

Generic red (19cmx24cm) filthy cloth that's many years old, I occasionally wash it : D. I tried a name brand cloth mouse pad (razor goliathus) and it sucked HARD. It had more friction than my shitty generic cloth pad and was less consistent, I was annoyed that it wasn't immediately better, but I thought it may need wearing in, WRONG it just plain sucked. Also I heard that it may be designed for specific sensitivity so I tried it on high medium and low and it still sucked.
What's the ultimate cloth mouse pad? 'on 120 ping i have beaten mortuary dirtbox and reload' (tm) mz adrenalin 'i watched sting once very boring and not good at all' (tm) mz adrenalin [i]'i shoulda won all

First years I played on quake I used paper ... it would get brown and torn and I would replace it Now I've upgraded through different mouse pads to an aluminum one, you just have to clean it with hot water daily.

I use the rough side of a func surface. I started out on the other side, but managed to scratch it on my way to a LAN or something, and just changed since then. The rubber frame/base is a bit worn out too - the edges are a bit wave shaped and it's hard to get the actual pad stay inside it.
The main reason i still use it is because it works fine and i'm too lazy to try something new. If i would buy a another mousepad, it would be because i wanted a better looking one. www.facebook.com/QuakeWorld

I think my cloth pad might officially have passed the 10 year mark by now. It's still the best thing ever and I dread the day that I have to replace it (not likely for another 14 years or so, judging by how well it is holding up, even after repeated washes) Spell "mogul," Bateman. How do you spell mogul? M-o-g-u-l. Mo-gul. Mog-ul. Ice, ghosts, aliens-

Roccat sense mousepad. I guess its a cloth thingie. I'm not really so keen on it. I do like the size though. I always played on the back side of a placemat, the thing you put under your plate normally. And if I'm honest, I think that felt better, and not only in the wallet. But when I got my l33t gaming mouse I thought I needed a l33t mousepad too. *shrugs* It does absorb wine better then plastic though. That's a bonus. ** Just wanted to add: I do like that it is very very flat, no edges or bumps to lean over, just totally flat. And that's nice.
