It appears that numerous players with good mice choose to use 500hz instead of 1000hz. Are there notable disadvantages to using 1000hz, or something like that? At least 1000 feels nice enough

lots of mice/motherboards can't get stable 1000hz - it floats between 750->1000
also 1000hz polling can effect fps stability on more humble computer specs (duron 800 etc.)
so often 500hz is considered superior and feels a sufficient improvement over 125hz

i prefer 120 or 250 hz
500hz feels sticky

I play on 500hz (mx300) and its very smooooth. Its max for this mouse.

Just started using 500hz with my mx310, i like it. Though i didnt find any problems with 1000hz, other than it didnt keep it near 1000 all the time, so i dropped it to 500, much more stable now.
