Phew, finally did it. I went through all maps rated 5.0 or 4.5 on this site http://mpqarchive.pauked.com/index.php?view=showscore and marke as ok for duel (either by the reviewer or readme), ran them via bspinfo.exe and simple php script to filter out those with non-duel item counts (too many or no armors, more than 1 lg, less than 2 or more than 3 rls, too much or no rox) and then went manually through those left. Here's the result: (descending from most recommended)
top picks:
efdm9 - definitely want to see this one, large vs small areas, some nice ideas not seen in any other map (glass/invisible walls)
auhdm2 - superb design, no annoying tele clowning, lots of armors
lacrima - awesome design
hcduel2 - nice ideas, nice teleports, bring it on
fcastle - tiny and sexy, no need to say more
brown - aerowalk-like, plenty of opportunities to out-smart the opponent
recommended:
north - original design idea + central room with central role
aggressr - quite ok, maybe a bit too average, still some interesting combat positions in it
lilith - nice design, maybe a bit too crazy speed teleports
madness - everything interconnected, i like it, can turn out as dynamic exciting map
mjdm1pro - small and nice, reminded me of skull (not sure why)
a bit recommended:
shroud2 - a bit too much ammo, but interesting concept of the centre
rfactory - okayish
oma - okayish
odd2 - nice and simple, but hopefully the ra area is not too strong position (you get all you need in there)
elkdm2 - was looking for something wrong about this map, but couldn't find anything, so i recommend it
spank1 - not too interesting design (yet far away from id creations), small, simple (aren't rls too close?)
kjdm12 - you can fall out
nice and small
rev68 - okayish, one too open area maybe
to consider:
nindm3 - i dont know, somehow it didnt feel ok, lack of freedom or smth
rcdm8 - large and no ra
impdm6 - no red armor but quite large map
edc - i don't like the design too much
vision1 - design nor textures are interesting to me
chesdm2 - interesting, no ra, long corridors could give some interesting mind wars
crdm2 - large, but has everything, design is ok, fps loss in central area?
effigy - looks very good, but im afraid it's too large for duel, not sure
ferrum - again very good, but probably too large
cbadm3 - dm4-ish, but not so much, doesn't have lg
cbadm2v2 - dm4-ish and weapons seem to be too close together with too big maplock potential
p3a - too much ammo
strafin5 - some very long odd hallways
warfare - too big i guess
