I don't think anyone should fear the 'multigaming' issue, it haven't really been a problem the past two qhlan's. Also it gives us many benefits, as I've described earlier in this thread. Also it's a good way to make kids aware of our scene, if lucky, we might actually attract some new players emo kids ? All Swedish kids are emo :/

Embrace the kids, as they are the only hope for a surviving scene. Seeing that the avarage age for a QW player seems to be around 26-27 years, means were probably gonna lose even more veterans in the years to come. Try to integrate them as much as possible in QW during these LAN's, and perhaps they will show interest, show it to their friends, start playing for fun with their friends and first then some interesting stuff might happen. Give them enough love, and maybe theyll even put away their razor and get a haircut who doesn't make them look like some cheap manga toon.

For me this is all awesome news. The shitty date was the main reason I never went. Fine, then we can go together.

edit: typo noticing how funny that was but also how true there hasn't been a problem getting people to accept the game as we see #qwrookie has its members it's just a matter of them playing alot to reach the level for competitive play. Back on topic tho: this is really a shot to put quakeworld on the map too, seeing there will be a large number of attendees. If 20% will watch the games, maybe half of them will try playing for the fun of it with enough courage they'll get into the community fine.

How about some kind of adopt-a-qw-rookie program?
We could for example go around the lan asking for people who want to try out qw, and then dedicate an hour of the lan to showing them the ropes, letting them play each other while guiding them/giving tips, and then assigning each of them a mentor if they want to keep playing. I'm sure there are people in the qw-community who would be up for this. I've done it myself a lot of times, but it would be way more efficient if properly organized...

What about an additional tourney dedicated to none QW players? They could join both, the normal and that tourney. Might be funnier (i.e. non-frustrating) for them, if they can play at an even level.

pattah/zalon: yeah, we did that at a previous lan, qhlan 8 iirc... there where 3 1on1 tournaments: "newbie", "been playing for a while" and "pro"... and we actually managed to fill all of them to 64 players each. That took _a lot_ of work, but was really fun.

I would love to see a 1on1 tournament with players that have never touched the game before=) that could be the funniest thing ever!

Ive seen a match between 2 total qw rookies. On dm4 they stood above/below eachother at lg/dark corner and armor entrance camping for a good 2 minutes without noticing the other guy, waiting for the other player to come running from somewhere

That took _a lot_ of work, but was really fun. Yea, work is an issue. Did you manage the tournaments manually? I guess handling the "complains" like opponent not showing up, QW not working, etc. alone takes a lot of time in running a tournament. A problem I see is that the rookie tournament schedule could clash with their tournaments (CS etc.), which they would obviously prefer in doubt.

Id' recommend the rookie tournament to be done by the Swedish part of the community....
