Well I can't help but to disagree with such arguments, regardles of who presents them. I see no reason why sports can't be compared and a comparison is not pointless when it makes a point: alternating platform is not a requirement for an interesting game. This is an important point to make since some people try to pass the opposing argument as some kind of universal law.

To be honest I don't see the problem here.

As someone mentioned practicing only TB3 makes people rather good on those maps, but on other hand we don't only play povdmm4 just because the simple structure of that particular map "purifies" and simplifies gameplay and thus makes its more "advanced".

People used to play 1on1, 2on2, 4on4, clan arena, rocket arena, orange dm, teamfortress and megaTF, and what not.

Imo it's up to tournaments to decide map pool and mods.

Versality is one of the main strenghts of "e-sports".

As far as FFA servers are concerned there really is no question, you need custom maps as they are just plain better for that sort of environment. That's not to say I dislike dm2/3/4/6/e1m2/d32c in FFA but ztn, headshot, frib, peej, heck for a modern slant even Tiddles have made fun ffa maps with much better connectivity or features of interest.

I do think that kenya maps (which specifically means maps other than tb3 that people want to play in 4on4) need to be on ffa too though to aid the learning process. I see no reason why the likes of cmt1b/3/4 and whatever else people want to look at can't be enjoyable in ffa.
