heyas i always see people posting huds/charsets/textures and the like but no one has made any sound replacements (afaik) i tried to make a pak that replaces the weapon/item/player sounds they are from quake2/quake3 plus some others i found somewhere else unfortunatly, quake1 has problems with high quility and high pitched sounds so i had to really modify them to make them sound half decent. and even after that they dont sound all that great compared to the originals =/ so tell me what you guys think http://rapidshare.de/files/16981792/xtifesoundpak.zip.html

has anyone tried e-mailing him?

Not recently, at least not me. I left feedback using that 'feedback' function on the page when i first downloaded it 2 years ago or so. He even showed up on the old qw.nu forums, and said that he may finish it sometime, or something along that line if i remember correctly. I think he just lost interest in it.

i don't think its a 'do we have any audiophiles?' situation. its more like, do we have anyone else who has access to huge amounts of commercial sound effects libraries? I spoke with Romero about this and he said Trent [Reznor] did only the sound effects of the player and i think some monsters. All the rest were done by me [Romero] and American [McGee]. Most of the sound effects the industry uses are from a huge collection from Sound Ideas. http://www.sound-ideas.com/ The General Series are the ones most used.

Why not use the original (44khz) source sounds? 'on 120 ping i have beaten mortuary dirtbox and reload' (tm) mz adrenalin 'i watched sting once very boring and not good at all' (tm) mz adrenalin [i]'i shoulda won all

original? weren't the original 22khz? :/ but there's a soundpak with 44khz sounds
Member 252 posts

yes they were a mix of 22khz and 44khz with the 22khz samples doubled up to get to 44hz, for less strain on the interpolation processing I think. 'on 120 ping i have beaten mortuary dirtbox and reload' (tm) mz adrenalin 'i watched sting once very boring and not good at all' (tm) mz adrenalin [i]'i shoulda won all

The vast majority are 11khz, 8bit. The following are 22khz, 16bit.
weapons/lhit weapons/lstart fish/death fish/idle boss2/sight boss2/idle boss2/death
There may be more 22khz or higher files, this is just from a quick check based on file size. So according to Nyquist theorem, your speakers don't need to reproduce frequencies above 11khz to hear Quake in all its glory!

wow, i made this thread over a year ago iv just produced another soundpack, WAY better then the one i posted last year i didnt have to reduce the quality of the sounds to make them work like before iv tested this with ezquake, and it can handle all of them HOWEVER... these are much louder than the original quake sounds, so make sure your volume isnt turned up high the sources for these sounds came from: Quake2 Quake3 Quake4 (most of them) Doom3 Hexen2 (freakin amazing teleport sounds) Return to Castle Wolfenstein (like one sound heh) Some i have no idea where they came from :p EDIT: Link http://xtyfe.tastyspleen.net/soundpack.7z

i used 7-zip to compress it, there shouldnt be a problem i can re-upload it as a zip then. just so everyone can use it without issue EDIT: uploaded as a zip

You need to edit the URL pasted here to ZIP as well. I'm checking out the pack right now! ---Where can you see lions? Only in kenya! Come to kenya we've got lions.
