I downloaded the new binaries from the link in http://eql.quakeworld.nu/eql12/news/6 and when I started quake my shaft had turned black. my bolt2_0.png was still white.
So far I've tried changing gl_shaftlight, changing the color on bolt2_0.png and even deleting it but to no avail.
wtf is going on?

On another note offtopic "ezQuake devs implemented cl_fakeshaft 2 (to be run with cl_fakeshaft_extra_updates 1 to work) to draw a visual shaft beam equal to playing with 12ms and cl_fakeshaft 0, no matter your actual ping."
The fakeshaft 2 shaft looks more like a cl_fakeshaft 0.7 shaft then a fakeshaft 0 one. I like it, I'm just saying it doesn't look like suggested ;p

Agreed that fakeshaft 2 with extra updates isn't visually anywhere near real 12ms fakeshaft 0.
No black shaft for me though.

The fact is that there is no "TRUE" shaft now. Every possible value of cl_fakeshaft [0..1]U{2} is now fakeshaft.
You say cl_fakeshaft 0.7 equal cl_fakeshaft 2.
I think It would be more correct to add "with my ping" to what you have said.
With cl_fakeshaft 2 your shaft behaviour should not depend on your ping (or depends less) than with 0.7
