I have no idea if XS4ALL is any good, but if I were to buy an internet connection in .nl, I would get one from them just because of their long support of the quakeworld community

Yeah that's what brought me to them in the first place.... however compared to other ISPs they look expensive?

Expensive compared to Tele2....
Xs4all - 40/3 Mb/sec @ euro 54,95/month (2 Months Free) Tele2 - 50/5 Mb/sec @ euro 19,95 (First 3 months) then 29,95/month

It's been years since I played QW Not sure I'm willing to give up any more of my life to it.... However the opportunity to play euros may be strong!

You dont wan't any other ISP then that delivers over a BBNED line. Any KPN or TELE2/TISCALI ISP will have sucky ping. They have no interleaving so the first ping hop is already over 15ms. I myself have the 4/1 connection from http://www.concepts-ict.nl/adsl Its pure for ping/qw for anything else I also have a 60/6 UPC cable connection. I have 12ms in nl and 25 in UK/DE/DK/SE/FR and 38 in FI Or if you live in a city which have fibre connection you might wanna try that

Dirtbox moving to .nl?? Of course you should waste time playing qw against euros then We can then compare the results vs euros to the results you have been getting against reload, and finally decide who is the best in the world Be

The results from me were inconclusive - I was terrible in Australia and terrible here :p

They have no interleaving so the first ping hop is already over 15ms. Interleaving is actually the one that increases your ping when you are talking about ADSL, fastpath doesn't.

Hagge - Yes I will be moving to Amsterdam in January. I haven't played QW for years... it would take me at least 6 months of playing 24/7 to get back to the skill i once had... i'm not waiting the time I have in europe for that! I dont have the patience anymore and i'm also too old...
murdoc - How do I found out if Holendrechtstraat in Amsterdam has fibre?

murdoc - How do I found out if Holendrechtstraat in Amsterdam has fibre? You can do a zipcode (postcode in Dutch) check on this site: http://www.glashart.nl/amsterdam And if you can't figure it out, just email them. Any Dutch person, especially the internet crews know the English language.

Anyone using UPC line (25mb) for QW in NL without a problem? Happen to have an ISP change, and now I face 5-15 PL. I guess it is because the modem placed after a quite long koax cable, but would be nice to hear from someone too that there should not be a problem with the line itself.

I have a UPC 60/6 connection (upgraded from 25/1.5) next to my dsl line and its utterly crap for playing qw unstable jumping ping with random packet loss.

Thanks murdoc. I am sad to hear.
@dirtbox: forget UPC for sure!

If there is a 2on2 comp count me in for team au I'm in London, haven't really played much since 2007/2008 after spending a year with a shit ISP miles from the exchange :/ Used to have 13ms to UK, 26 to NL and DE'ish, 38 to DK though - with an ISP called Be who let you switch to fastpath. Keep meaning to start again but bloody Starcraft is taking up all my time now!

Bloody ozzies coming over to Europe!
I thought Australia was paradise?? (well that's what all Australians I've met say!) Custom maps for the show, episodes for the pro.

@dirtbox: forget UPC for sure! I wish I had have come back and read this thread earlier. I signed up for Tele2 one year ago, no intention of gaming and then now a year later i signed up for UPC 120mbit cable (not seeing the above post). During the day I am getting up to 40% PL in qw. Thankfully they have a 1 week cooling off period and I just cancelled it. Murdoc - is http://www.concepts-ict.nl/adsl still good? Does only the 4mbit have low pings or the 20mbit also? My Tele2 is still connected until February so I wanna get the right ISP. The lure of 120mbit was just so high.

So eventually in 2011 I tried the following ISP's Tele2 - High pings 40+ UPC - 50% Packetloss Concepts-ICT - They artificially capped me at 10mbit but great pings. Fast forward 2 years to 2013 and Concepts has been sold to Telefort and the connection, around the same time, became often unreliable and mostly unplayable with higher pings and packet-loss. Time to find a new ISP. I went with XS4ALL VDSL thinking this will be the answer but unfortunately now I am only able to get 40ms to NL and 60+ elsewhere. Even Foppa is unplayable. In fact i get 38ms to XS4ALL's own servers and their support tells me my pings are normal I know most people in NL use Ziggo but they aren't available in Amsterdam. Anyone else got some suggestions? Fibre isn't available where i am...

Maybe you already have but ask wimpeeh which ISP he has? Think he gets 12ms to nl and 25 to foppa. Amazed that xs4all has such lame pings on vdsl..

Hey dirtbox, its because VDSL use high error correction to get more stable connection on higher speed. You need to get plain adsl connection for lower ping.

Pretty sure Wim has Ziggo cable which isn't in my area.
XS4ALL does actually have an ADSL1 which is 8mbit down/1mbit up plan. I wonder if they will let me switch to it.....
I am, however, enjoying the faster download speeds I get now.... 24mbit down/3mbit up when I used to just have 10/1

thank god the BT default is for interleaving to be off on VDSL2!

XS4all have confirmed they will not remove interleaving on my line. I will see if i can switch to ADSL1...
