So, hello Quake World Community! This thread should serve three purposes for me: 1. A introduction of myselfMy Name is Ivan 'WTFPRooF?!' N., I'm 18 years old, I'm living in Germany and currently I'm a student. I've been playing PC-Games since I turned 10 and since 2 years I'm playing different FPS-Duel type games. I've played or I'm still playing: OpenArena, AlienArena, Unreal Tournament 3, Unreal Tournamen 2k4, Quake 3 CPMA, Quake Live, Warsow, Xonotic, Painkiller. I've discovered Quake World about half a year ago but only installed the game 3-4 days ago. So I'm technically a newb/rookie in QW, however I'm not a complete newb to duel and I think that I also understood movement in QW quite well (I can get up to 500-550 ups on most duel maps), however I still can imrove here I think. That's pretty much all for the first part. 2. I still got some questions1. Does someone own a verry simplistic HUD in QW like this one here? I know it is QL but, something like this should be possible in QW too. I mainly need, a big clock on the top-middle of the screen, big health/armor indicators on the bottom-center of the screen, a ammo-bar on the left side of the screen, my current ammo-count on in the right-bottom corner, and a score-indicator on the right-bottom corner above the ammo-count (consisting of a two colored boxes with the numbers in them). If some one has such a hud and is willing to share it post it here pls. 2. Is it concidered cheating to use this simpleitems? 3. Is there something like Hit-Sounds in QW? That's it for the second part. 3. I'm searching for a practice-partnerYou shouldn't be too skilled (that's why I'm posting this in the rookie-section) but you should know a little bit about QW. You should have time on two days during the week (you can choose the days) for 1-2 hours of practice between 18:00 and 20:00 CET. Maps I wanted to practice are dm6, dm4, aerowalk, ztn. You also should have a Head Set and Teamspeak 3 or Skype. If you are interested contact me over: xfire: wallerus Skype: ivann1992 e-mail: i.navdaev@hotmail.com ,or over a PM in this forum. Thx for your time and HF GL Ivan 'WTFProoF?!' N.

Hiya + welcome.
I'm not a student anymore - for o, about 14 years so I'm never about that much ;-)
Best bet is to use IRC and join #qwrookie on quakenet. Just ask for a duel - I will if I can and there are lots of other rookies in there.
HF!

Hi and welcome!
1. You can check this topic, it might help you find a person who has similar hud http://www.quakeworld.nu/forum/viewtopic.php?id=53&p=25 And there is command hud_editor in QW which allows you to move everything etc. Some custom hud graphics here http://gfx.quakeworld.nu/browse/hud/
2. It's not cheating
3. No special hitsounds like in QL. Only hitsounds are the normal "argh" "uhh" sounds that the player makes when you hit him
4. check #qwrookie like grump suggested

I always liked the light hud that's on gfx.quakeworld.nu that I think Murdoc created. Not keen on that one? Welcome to quakeworld.nu BTW www.facebook.com/QuakeWorld

"Maps I wanted to practice are dm6, dm4, aerowalk, ztn."
You should consider practicing dm2 as well as it is used regurarly when duelling. Especially in duel tournaments.

ezQuake supports proper simpleitems, no need to use those black boxes.

Welcome to the scene! I have been playing since 1996 but took a break from 2005-2010... Seems like qw is a game you just can't abandon that easy... Hopefully more kids finds their way to this amazing/quick/intense game so the scene will live on forever!

Maybe a better choice than "that weird uncle Hagge that sometimes touches you in inappropriate places"

ezQuake supports proper simpleitems, no need to use those black boxes. Imo they're actually quite bad since for example you can't see through GL when coming from RA in dm6.

Have got a question.
Are there actually many rookies still out there? Cuz on the #qwrookie-channel there are about 70-75 people but I kinda doubt that they all are rookies. So how high is the actual active-rookie count right now?
Thx & peace

There are not many rookies around nowadays and #qwrookie turned into a more general channel over time. Lots of people idling there are far away from being a rookie. I think the best way to start is to ask for low div duels and if you find someone around your skill level play as often as possible against him. As I said, there are not many players new to QW and you will have to play the same opponents over and over again until you reach a skill where you have more players of equal skill. I just came back from a long break and before my break I wasnt even good. So msg me on IRC if you like and we can play some games.

First I need a PC where QW runs with stable 300+ FPS cuz the rig I use now (P III, 600MB RAM, ATI Radeon 9000) barely makes 60FPS on everything turned off and 640x400 resolution. Atm I'm wasting my time playing around with the settings to find the gfx-settings that suit me the most, but at the start of next month I will get a decent GFX-card again and switch to my normal rig (AMD Athlon 64 X2 3400+, 2GB RAM and eighter a GF 9600GT or a GF 250GTS or a GF 450GTS) and then I will start playing QW and QL seriously again.

have you bought that rig yet? never argue with an idiot. they'll bring you back to their level and then beat you with experience.
