So I guess most qw players now have girlfriends, compared to when we had the original post in the old forum?

wow did you gut an old mouseman and replace its mechanical internals with optical? Yes povohat. Its an Old mouseman with the optical from a explorer 3.0. Its allot of yeas since i built this. It works nice. But i have to replace the buttons to mouse1 and 2 every 2years or so(to much quake). Had this mouse 99.9% of all my quaketime, at least. :=)

Surprisingly little crap on your desk there Milton, you cleaned up in preparation for the new season?
I noticed a lot of people use those flat monitors... TFT as opposed to CRT I think it's called... I remember there being some discussion about an extra 1-8ms delay, but I guess it doesn't bother most quakers?

I remember there being some discussion about an extra 1-8ms delay, but I guess it doesn't bother most quakers? The best LCD will never be as good as the worst CRT in that regard, and the delay is very apparent on the mid to low end LCDs because it's a delay between what you do and what gets drawn on screen, so it feels like you're dragging your crosshair behind you through a lake of treacle on a bungee cord. LCDs are easier on the eyes (especially if your CRT only does 60hz) , take up less space and people still actually fucking make and sell them, so those would be the reasons you see a lot of them in this thread.

i think it's mostly because the people haven't decided to buy an tft themselves, gotten it from work etc. and yea that fact that you can't buy a CRT anymore.

Not true at all. All of the CRTs are supposed to be able to do at least 75Hz/85Hz, and in reality they almost always go beyond that. But, if your monitor could only go as high as 85Hz, then: A CRT running at 85Hz has a frametime of 11,76ms. If you compare that to a 120Hz TFT that has 1) zero input lag and 2) response time of 2-3ms, the result from that is 10,33ms or 11,33ms. Yes, it is faster than your CRT at 85Hz, not to mention it displays more images per second. That being said, 120Hz or 150Hz CRT is better in the terms of "delay" than your best 120Hz TFT, but the difference is really negligible. 60Hz/75Hz TFTs pale in comparison, they are not even close to 120Hz TFTs or high-refreshrate CRTs.

If anyone is thinking about writing a 200km long reply (or any reply at all, really) to Renzo to prove him wrong, then please start another topic for that.
This thread is about what the QW players' command centers look like, so post some more pics guys'n'girls! www.facebook.com/QuakeWorld
