^ the point of this is to say that one of the most annoying things on messageboards is when people quote the entire message that already appears immediately above their reply
it would make sense to disable the 'quote' button on the most recent post that has been made in a thread

I don't think that's viable. For example, you might want to reply to a specific part of that message, and you would thus edit the quoted text to show which bit you're replying to.
Removing the link wouldn't work anyway, you can still use quote tags.

well yes you can still use quote tags but i doubt people would bother copying and pasting the whole post
its only a problem when someone has written a long post (especially one containing [ img ] tags) and then someone just quotes the whole thing and replies right below
it seems fair enough, if someone wants to reply to a specific part they would be just as well to copy and paste the bit they want and manually add the quote tags

I don't see how that applies only to the most recent post though.

because the most recent post is quite clearly readable (immediately above the post you've just made) whereas it could conceivably be useful to quote a post that was made 2 or 3 positions up (even if it is a h00j quote) because you want to make it clear you are replying to that

I still think it's utterly pointless to spend the time implimenting it
