Hey, anyone out there who got this laptop or something similar and can confirm that you can play some decent quake on this?
With external monitor ofc but just need to see if the specs could handle it.
Thx

Geforce GT 525M looks like cut down version of desktop 8800GT. It has less than 1/3rd of the fillrate (9,6Gtex/s vs 33,6Gtex/s, important for qw) and half the memory bandwidth (28,8GB/s vs 57,6GB/s, important for high resolution gaming).
It will run ezQuake somehow, at 1920*1080 you might be able to run it 400fps stable depending on the graphical settings and hi-res textures.

That would be good enough I guess, when you concider that they card is easily overclockable to GT540M it will give some more performance.
Thanks!

Ok just got myself a Dell Inspiron 15R instead it also had I5, 4GB RAM and a GT525M , the lowest fps I got so far on 1366x768 was 796 so thats pretty good. I will set max fps to 500 or something so it wont heat so much

I've got a Dell Studio XPS 15 and the thing (over)heats like a ***** when I don't place it on a notebook stand with a fan in it, or on a small improvised stand like a tall cookie jar. It's design is flawed since when you open the lid the screen will block the ventilation output at the back. The i7 processor only adds to the heat problem. And... the location of the power input could be better aswell becasue it can block your mouse a lil bit if you play FPS games. But I usually dont want to play fps games without external monitor anyway. Heck, to me its just an desktop replacement anyway.
SO.. I still think it's a lovely laptop with a shiny backlit keyboard too.
oh well... too much said anyway.
I hope your choice will be a good one, isnt Inspiron the budget line?

You can't read too much into Dell branding, the last two I got (laptop for the wife and desktop for my dad) were both from the Vostro range which is supposed to be for small businesses. Often you get best value by opting for something from a cheaper range and then customising it slightly (i.e. making sure the important stuff like CPU, GPU, RAM etc is good) rather than just going for one of their top end models and pay for a load of crap you don't want/need.
By the sounds of it the Inspiron Murdoc got has a smaller screen ~720p which is no bad thing IMO, personally I'd find 1080p too high a res for that screensize.

I basiclly only need this laptop for some business trips and qhlan. So yea I went for the budget line instead of the xps line. I also replaced the hdd with a ssd crucial m4 64gb, so that also helps for lower heath consumption together with i5 I think I should be fine

I doubt that, SSD use so much less power and generates very little heat compared to regular HDD.
