Anyone know who ran the Quake Nations Cup or QWWC?
Maybe time for another Country vs Country competition?

I am not going to run any more QNC/QWWC, sorry. I am occupied with ezQuake / nQuake / QWL, I think it'd be better if I stick only to those. When I ran QNC I was at the university and had much more free time than I have now when I work. I already tried to help with Ignition to later realize it is "over the limit". Don't want to start doing something I am quite sure I couldn't handle properly. I wrote some blog post(s) about running QNC back then, they contain my tips on what helped a lot to get this tournament going quite smoothly. So if anyone feels like taking over, inspiration source is out there. Also I can provide source code of the last QNC. I might even help you run the website, but that's it. This job mainly requires talking to team captains and doing proper coverage. If you don't have time for that, do NOT try to run QNC.

I guess Finland is always ready for yet another nations cup :L. I wonder how many other national teams we could get?

I think people are hinting at me to run it? I'm not saying I will but if I did I guess it would be:
1on1 (Each country can enter 2x1 people) 2on2 (Each country can enter 2x2 people) 4on4 (Each country can enter 1x4 people) 10on10 (Each country can enter 1x10)
Each country fields a side for each event and then I guess a Double-Elimination Style? or something?
How many countries could field a side for 10on10? I guess if a country had only 8 or 9 they could still play but at a disadvantage.
Each event would give points like 5,4,3,2,1 for 1st,2nd,3rd,4th,5th....
If a country cannot field a team for a particular event they just would miss the points for each event and be less likely to win the overall prize (but could still win an individual event).

good luck finding 10 players for each country, thats like sweden/finland/poland only

We can skip the 10on10 then.
We could get creative and include not-so-standard events: - FFA (1 person from each country) - DMM4 (1on1) - Clan Arena (2on2) - Clan Arena (4on4 or 5on5)

FFA with the best player of each country (however we would decide this) would be absolutely cool.

In my opinion 4on4 and 10on10 are the only real ways to play nations cup. Nowadays that would mean 4on4 for the reasons murdoc just pointed out.

how about:
ffa 1on1 2on2 4on4
to decide the players you can nominate, failing that use the stats from duelmania and eql.

If someone runs this, I vote 4on4 only.

I would like to see more gamemodes, not just deathmatch. we have instagib, race, even CTF (ctf 2on2 any1?) If this is supposed to be a Quake Nations Cup, imo it makes sense to compete in every gamemode. Quake isn't all about deathmatch... sadly thats all we play, and im sure that is one of the weaknesses of this community. The way i see it, this comp is a way of competing in these not-so-common gamemodes. Who knows, it may be the (re)start of non-dm competitions. edit: If someone runs this, I vote 4on4 only. This is what i complain for. Most players are too narrow minded (sorry) to even consider other approach, other perspective of quaking. These kind of decisions _will_ lead to the death of the EU community. Imagine that it would be 4on4 only - what is the difference between this comp and eql? its just 4on4, and we already know the winner, Sweden or Finland. Booring... Now if it has other gamemodes, meaning more games, more unexpected results, more drama. more everything. why so narrow, WHY?? we can do better! *sigh* never argue with an idiot. they'll bring you back to their level and then beat you with experience.

I'm tending to agree with you Mushi... the thing is we don't want to include game modes that no one actually plays. It would be like making up a new event for the Olympics that no one has done before.
These game modes are very common:
FFA 1on1 - dmm4 1on1 - dmm3 2on2 4on4
and to a lesser extent
Clan Arena CTF
I'm considering running this comp myself. Previous comps were including 1on1 and 2on2 also. You want to find the best all around nation, not the best nation at 4on4.

Doesn't appear to be much interest... Maybe only in 4on4?

I'd say CTF/Clan Arena as outsider options and feels like anyone can win www.facebook.com/QuakeWorld

CTF would be awesome, would need some reactivating of dormant players but it is far from an impossible feat imo. More gamemodes in generel yes please...

I guess if it is to be the "Olympics of QW" then all regularly played modes would need to be included...

Not strictly related to this topic but with antilag it might now be interesting to see some matches between Australian and European teams/players (probably in central/west US with around 150-200ms), also Brazil vs European teams/players on East coast US servers.
As for the format, if 10on10 is considered unfeasible (which I can understand) how about something like 6on6? Ultimately I guess the more players on each team the more the strongest nations (FI/SE) will dominate, since e.g. their 6th best player will still be of pretty strong calibre.

Unfortunately I think you would be hard-pressed finding 4 active Australia QW players. With antilag, it is a pity that no servers run in New Zealand anymore. East coast Australian players would ping 50-60ms and American players in LA would being about 120ms I believe. There also used to be some servers in Japan that would be about 150ms from Australia and I think they were 150ms from USA also.

Nice idea. But ping 100+ unplayable at all... Do you want to play in EU? Australia can enter 1on1 and 2on2 divisions with Australian players living in Europe
