Hey, I decided to try my hand at QW mapping, all I could find was QOOLE 2.5 but it feels uncomfortable to me - is there any map editor that's similar to GTK Radiant (or ZeroRadiant) for QW? Or Radiant support for QW?

Hi,
Have a chat with the guys in
#terrafusion on QuakeNet IRC. I'm sure you can get some help from the skilled mappers that hang out there.

There's was already a GTKradient version (1.5) with quake1 support a long time ago, so yes. The only problem was that q1 doesn't have shader support, so to set radient up correctly took a few extra steps, but very doable. Ask here: http://www.celephais.net/board/view_thread.php?id=4&start=12140

Ah, I realised it works with GTK Radiant 1.5.0, not sure about that shader thing though, found a .WAD with all the textures, however.

If anyone stumbles upon this thread this post will be helpful for figuring out how to configure NetRadiant for mapping with QuakeWorld: http://quakeone.com/forums/quake-help/general-help/8133-become-quake-modder-5.html#post115359
And this is another RECENT great tutorial for compiling maps for Quake 1:
